"Monster Spiders"? Okay. How is through any of a gazillion cracks, holes or spaces around pipes, windows, floorboards etc. Why? Depends on the type. Some are just looking to get cool, or for moisture or food. Daddy longlegs are typically found in bathrooms because they eat decomposing material, like sloughed off skin from your shower, towels and washcloths. They don't come in from inside the pipes. Think about it, how many times a day are your pipes flooded with water? Every time you wash your hands, while you are shaving, brushing your teeth and so on. What about further down the line, where it meets the main sewage line, and everybody else's water.
Just remember, a spider's main goal in life is to wait until you are asleep and then tiptoe across your face. Pleasant dreams!

Funny you should ask. I live in a very old house. I was up at 3am squirting a giant buzzing wasp wtih air freshener, and now there is a daddy long legs in my bath. It looks like the Addams Family Mansion in summer because it's festooned in spider webs-they seem to hatch from eggs in tiny cracks in the walls or behind picture rails. There have also been bees in the brickwork cracks outside. And I once had a bat which found its way in and whizzed around for an hour or so--theya re an endangered species and I was terrified it would settle here for ever as I would then not be allowed to move it; also heard a clicking noise coming from behind a chair in my bathroom which I thought was the plumbing, till I looked one day when I realised it had stopped and found a desiccated baby bat clinging to the wicker work--yeucch!!

Difficult to imagine spiders going through a pipe..seems they'd keep getting washed back down everytime someone ran water down. If I were you I'd look around for cracks around your windows or windows that are open. They also can get through your doors. Remember that baby spiders can get in and grow up to to be big spiders, so they don't need a very big opening. The bathroom is a favorite place for spiders to set up their webs because the water in the bathroom attracts a lot of insects. Everytime I go to take a shower, I see a number of spiders up in the corners of the shower stall. I clear them away, dispose of them, but more are always back the next day.

They don't come up the pipe and through the water trap - spiders are not the best swimmers in the world. They enter the building through any cracks (around doors and windows) and and are often seen in the bath because once in they cannot climb up the smooth vertical sides. For every one you see there will be loads more you haven't seen!

Sounds like your own answer is good one. Spiders seem to be quite adventurous and love the challenges they face. Ever read Charlotte's Web?
All the facts you ever need are in the song "Itsy Bitsy Spider."
