If you clock a running animal for their absolute speed, a cockroach doesn't even come close. There's no way that a cockroach can match the 60 mph speeds of a cheetah, or even the speeds of a pronghorn, horse, or housecat.

If you measure proportional speed (i.e. how many body lengths the organism covers in one second), then a cockroach comes out a little better in the comparisons. But even then, there are still faster critters out there. The tiger beetle is probably the fastest running critter when measured by proportion. If the tiger beetle were 6 feet long, instead of insect size, and still able to run the same proportional speed, they would break the sound barrier. Even at the size they are, they run so fast that they actually outstrip their visual processing speed, and have to stop running in order to see where they are going.

Here's a picture of a tiger beetle. They look pretty cool too.

No cockroach is not the fastest runner in the planet.

The fastest runner in the planet is your mind. Nothing on the planet runs faster than your mind.

For its size, yes it is. Obviously the fastest animal in a race is the cheetah, but for its body length the cockroach would definatly beat a cheetah. If they were of equal proportions, the cockroach is about 5X faster than a cheetah.

well relative to size, the fastest runner on the planet is a kind of beetle. but the fastest runner period is the cheetah.
