This is in response to the story about Gita, an Asian elephant who died June 10, 2006 at the Los Angeles Zoo (in California). Here's the story:

There's probably even software out there that would alert zoo staff if an animal (who isn't supposed to) laid down. If not, someone could create the software pretty easily, right?

Has anybody tried to feed manatees in the wild. I'm sure i'ts probably illegal but screw that. Would they come over for some fresh romanie lettuce, or perhaps a crisp, delicious apple?

I know its ironical but what I have discovered is perhaps true...
Are there any jobs in India after a B.Sc. in Zoology with good grades? Please let me know the details if such jobs may be availible, now or in near future.

Also, are there any professional courses one can pursue after doing a B.Sc. in Zoology? One can carry on for a masters degree, but that doesn't seem good enough. I want some professional course that gives me some job, and don't tell me about having a B.Ed.!

Still, non-conventional job opportunities in India are really poor.
If you have some information that might be valuable, please answer my question.

What's your opinion.. ? Do zoos unfairly hold exotic animals captive for the sake of educational value? Or is it a cleverly masked and legalized version of trafficking them.
I am sure it is very stressful for the animals to be forcefully removed from their natural habitats.. and the same educational value could be found by watching National Geographic Explorer or similar programming..
But maybe others have different opinions.. ?
What's yours... ?

What makes alligators and crocs more capable of surviving? They seem less skilled with their short lets and slow movement on land. Yet they outlived the mighty T-Rex, Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, Pterodactyls, etc. How???
