to teach biology in college. Why do so many people want to be pre med. I laugh sometimes because I wouldn't want some of the people in my classes operating on me. I know someone that has a 2.4 cumlative gpa and is about to graduate and she says that is about to apply to med school. Why do so many people want to be doctors.

If we go back to the French revolution when people were put to the guillotine the head was severed quickly and cleanly. Is it possible that consciousness would be maintained even for a few moments? Would the unfortunate person feel the thud as his head hit the bottom of the bucket or still be able to see the sky and 'know' what had happened?
Or would death be absolutely instantaneous?

It is not like you can do a double blind test where 1000 people get different dosage for a year and than check what group survived best. So how DO they know what is best for us?

I have had this pain for almost a year now on the right upper side of my stomach around my liver area, it's like a burning sensation, it burns for about 10 minutes especially when I wake up early in the mornings. I went to a specialist and I did an MRI and nothing showed. Has anyone else had this problem before if you had it, can you tell me what were you diagnosed with?

Okay, here's the deal. I'm 15, gonna be 16 in September (the 14th), and I'm a sophomore in High School. I am really mad because I have a lot of talent in helping people. I'm volunteering at the hospital and i only get to work 4 hours every TWO WEEKS, no more (because of some stupid thing like "grades will lower if you work more, which is crap. This really angers me. I am almost POSITIVE I want it more than those other volunteers... Some of the people in there probably HAVE to do it, like community service for some law violation or something, and they probably dont want to be there. I WANT to be there, doing something, helping people. I sit at home all the time and my talent goes to WASTE. I want to be a Surgeon eventually (Yes, I am 100% sure, and very dedicated to that dream), and I just want to work in a hospital more than a lousy 4 hours every 2 weeks... Is there anything I could do to help people or something I could do? I am so bored and dont want myself to be a waste to society..

Please do not respond if you are not at least somewhat familiar with medicine and all you have to say is something like, "it makes pain go away". I want to know technically how it works and what it does.
