I will answer your questions in inverse order. 1) Although they have found a cure for children, many couples aren't taking it. Pick the right location and you can be as busy as you want to be.

2) If you are in pratice, pediatrics starts as a doctor - parent relationship. As your patients approach adolescence it can become a doctor - patient relationship. You need some skills, as this is not always automatic. Teens may be indifferent, parents may want to retain all control.

3) Work activities vary. You can work in a clinic, newborn and premie nursery, emergency unit, be a hospitalist, or enter private practice. There are a host of specialties such as allergy, hematology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology and many others. You can teach or mentor students and residents. You can go into research. You will probably be asked to serve on various committees of the hospital or of its medical staff.
