Percocet (Oxycodone and Acetaminophen) has not been well studied for effects during pregnancy. Such drug combination is in the FDA pregnancy category C.

It is prescribed to pregnant patients with cautions if the benefits from the use of is acceptable despite its potential risks. It is said that it can affect the fetus if too much amount is used.

In your case, there is no much choice of analgesic. You need some pain reliever that is at least not too risky. Percocet is better than other analgesics so far based on animal studies. However, you need to adhere to the directions of your doctor. Be sure to let your doctor know you are pregnant.

If you can get away with just Tylenol, that's going to be your best bet. What you REALLY need is a pregnancy test so you know for sure.

Percocet is an opiate plus Tylenol, which should be fine. Your baby won't be addicted unless you're on it for a period of time right up until delivery.

It's not ethical to do drug research on pregnant women, so we don't know that much about what any drug does, but Percocet has been around a long time without raising any major concern.

Congrats on the baby.

im not sure where you saw category b at .. but this is what i found....

FDA pregnancy category C. Percocet may be harmful to an unborn baby, and could cause addiction or withdrawal symptoms in a newborn. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Percocet may pass into breast milk and could harm a nursing baby. Do not use Percocet without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not give this medicine to anyone younger than 18 years old.

percocet is not known to have harmful fetal effects in utero. if you continue taking narcotic pain medications up until the time of delivery, then the baby may be born addicted and will have withdrawl symptoms after birth. as long as you stop taking the percocet when your post-surgical pain goes away, your baby should be fine.

I would have a preg. test ASAP to find out for sure if you are pregnant. If you are talk with your dr. about your meds. The only meds that have been tested enough to say that they are safe during pregnancy are tylenol products.

Class B is about as safe as you can expect. There are almost no drugs in class A. And narcotics are much safer than NSAID's, especially in early pregnancy, so it isn't as if you have a lot of choice.
