I have been thinking why lives are almost all physically symmetrical? For example, mammals appear to be symmetrical - right side of body is identical with the left side of body.

Alright, I'm doing my biology homework, procrastinating really and it asks to trace the blood through heart and body through 18 paths 1.vena cava (inferior vena cava?)2. right atrium 3. tricuspid valve 4. right ventricle 5.pulmonary semilunar valve (6? pulmonary trunk?)6 pulmonary arteries 7. capillaries in lung 8. pulmonary veins 9. left atrium 10. bicuspid valve 11. left ventricle 12(under septum)12. aortice smilunar valve 13. aorta
I can't get 18! Would it be correct to assume the (?) as numbers or is that stretching it? What am I missing?!?

Karen and Steve each have a sibling with sickle cell disease. Neither Karen nor Steve nor any of their parents have the disease, and none of them have been tested to reveal the sickle cell trait. Based on this incomplete information, calculate the probability that if this couple has a child, the child will have sickle cell disease.

The answer they give in the back of my book is 1/9 but my question is WHY???

The theory of biological evolution is based on change in the offspring of an organism either through combinations of traits inherited from the parent(s) or by mutation during reproduction. For the necessary number of changes to occur to progress from combinations of reproducing molecules to modern humans a certain number of generations must have occurred. For single celled life, generations occur rapidly but for more advanced organisms, there are far fewer generations and thus less opportunity for change. Throw in time for the Earth to cool, global catastrophes such as volcanism and asteroid and comet collisions, to cause rates of change to vary, and an evolutionary model could be constructed. Has this ever been done, and if so, what did it show? How many generations would be required for us to have evolved and has the Earth been in existence long enough for that many generations to have occurred?
