Prosthetic barriers prevent a zygote from being formed from the egg and sperm of two different animals. It includes animals being anatomically unable to mate and mating procedures (dances etc.) Postzygoteic barriers prevent the zygot from developing into a fertile an adult, a mule for example. Geographical barriers include animals that live in different areas, or in different parts of the same area. For example, birds that live on the ground versus birds that nest in trees.
