UREA is the end product of Protein Metabolism in the body. When you eat a proteinaceous meal, such as steak, it is broken down into individual amino acids by hydrolysis of the peptide bonds. The Amino acids are absorbed by the villus in the small intestine and transferred into the blood. In the blood, these proteins go to the liver where they are metabolized by deamination and decarboxylation, eventually reaching the Urea cycle, and the unabsorbable residues from proteins will be filtered by the kidneys and excreted with the urine.
