A tree killed by being buried under volcanic ash was found to have a ratio of carbon-14 atoms to carbon-12 atoms of 4.8x10^-14. How long ago did the eruption occur?

(The answer is 2.7x10^4, although I'm not sure how they got that answer... could anyone explain what I have to do?)

A linearly polarized electromagnetic wave is sent through two sheets of polarizing material. The first sheet,A, is oriented so that its transmission axis makes an angle of 30deg with respect to the incident electric field of the wave. The second sheet,B, is oriented so that its transmission axis makes an angle of 90deg with the incident electric field of the wave. The incident beam has an electric field of peak magnitude Esubscript0 and average intensity Ssubscript0.

a) What is the peak value of the electric field amplitude after it goes through sheet A?

b) What is the average intensity of the wave after it passes through A?

c) What is the average intensity of the wave after it passes through B?

d) Suppose that A and B are interchanged so that the wave is first incident upon B. What is the average wave intensity after passing through both polarizing sheets?

... how to solve it using the law of cosines! Can someone please help me please????

It says:

A boat heads 35 degrees (does not say from where), propelled by a force of 750 lbs. A wind FROM 320 degrees exerts a force of 150 lbs on the boar. How large is the resultant force, and in which direction is the boat moving?

I have no idea how to set this up or anything!!! Can someone please walk me through this?! I would appreciate it so much! Thank you so much and I will pick a best answer TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, can anyone tell me what type of math class you would find this in (i.e. precalc, calc 1, calc 2, linear algebra, etc.)?

How do u find out critical points when graphing a graph. I know how to find out the vertex and zeros/roots. I need help find out critical points so the graph can be more exact. Please Help me.

Critical points are those points on a graph at which a line dran tangent to the curve is horizontal or vertical. Please help me!

The equation is -h^2+18h
i got the vertex which is (9,81)
81 being the maximum
the zeros/roots i got are 18 and O
help me find out the critical points

everything is right so far.......my answers are not wrong trust me. i just need help finding critical points so my graph can be more accurate.

For about a month now, there has been a little spider above my bed, in my room. Me and my friend didn't bother to kill it, or put it out side either. We decited to just leave it alone, and then we named it Milton lol! It has been feeding of lady bugs that crawl in my room, and sometimes moths, when I forget to close my window.

It's back & about the size of a lady bug(or overall the size of my nail). It's a brown color with black spotish-line things on it's back. It's legs are brown with black stripes. It looks pretty tiny and harmless. Does anybody know what type of spider this could be? I would like to know if it is posiones 'er not. Thanx!

Can you still use the equation m=nM?
Lets say you have 0.00000245mol of potassium-40. Are you allowed to assume that M=40g/mol and then multiply it by the moles in order to calculate mass?

Is it even possible to calculate the mass of an isotope, or am I losing my mind? (Nuclear chemistry is making me go crazy, seriously).

Asked this earlier but made a mistake on the first one...

a. 8x - 3 (x + 2) = 5y - x
b. -6x = 7 -5y

1. How would I rewrite the first equation in slope-intercept form?

2. How would I rewrite the second equation in slope-intercept form?

3. Are they parallel?

10 points to whoever gets it right.
