Let Liza's age be " x "
Paul's age = x + 5
By statement,
x + (x+5) = 19
x + x + 5 = 19
2x + 5 = 19
2x = 19 - 5 = 14
x = 14 / 2 = 7
Liza is 7 years old & Paul is 12 years old

how can you not figure this out. do this

19-5=14 then
14/2=7 after that
7+5=12 is paul's age

paul is twelve and lisa is 7

you subtract the five so that you can divide equally by two. then you divide that answer by two because there are two people. then you add back that five to one of the half's then you get paul is 12 and lisa is 7.

suppose lisa is x years old
so paul is x+5
sum of there ages
x+x+5=2x+5
2x+5=19
2x=19-5
2x=14
x=7
so lisa is 7 and paul is +5 =12
