I've heard, that for EACH nuclear explosion, there's a statistical chance the WHOLE atmosphere will blow up and thus eliminating mankind. It was estimated that the chance was once in a million or so. But i heard that number many years ago. What's the current view on this?
Maybe the chance is 1 in only 1000 or so?

Yes, I can be a total dunce when it comes to moles, but I got every other problem except these three which threw me off.
1.) Calculate the mass of calcium oxide that will be formed when 0.48g of calcium is burned in 0.32g of oxygen. The equation is:
2Ca + O2 = 2CaO (Answer: 0.67g of CaO)
2.) Calculate the mass of zinc bromide that can be formed when 1.00g of zinc is mixed with 1.00g of bromine. The equation is:
Zn + Br2 = ZnBr2 (Answer: 1.41g of ZnBr2)
3.) What mass of sodium chloride would be expected of 0.460g of sodium with 0.426g of chlorine gas? The equation is:
2Na + Cl2 = 2NaCl (Answer: 0.702g of NaCl)
The answers are the "correct" answers listed on the answer sheet by the way. So, how did we get those? Help, plz! Thanx! I'd be lost without your intelligence lol

1.Find the polynomial f(x) of degree three that has zeroes at 1, 2, and 4 such that f(0) = -16.

2.For the following equation, find the interval(s) where f(x) < 0.
f(x) = 1 Divided by x^2-2x-8

3.The polynomial f(x) divided x - 3 results in a quotient of x^2+3x-5 with a remainder of 2. Find f(3).

4.Express the following statement as a formula with the value of the constant of proportionality determined with the given conditions: w varies directly as x and inversely as the square of y. If x = 15 and y = 5, then w = 36.

5.Find the quotient and remainder of f(x) = x^4 - 2 divided by p(x) = x - 1.

1. Consider the hydrocarbon pentane, C5H12 (molar mass 72.15 g).

(a) Write the balanced equation for the combustion of pentane to yield carbon dioxide and water.

(b) What volume of dry carbon dioxide, measured at 25°C and 785 mm Hg, will result from the complete combustion of 2.50 g of pentane?

(c) Under identical conditions, a sample of an unknown gas effuses into a vacuum at twice the rate that a sample of pentane gas effuses. Calculate the molar mass of the unknown gas.

2. Answer the following questions related to hydrocarbons.

(a) Determine the empirical formula of a hydrocarbon that contains 85.7 percent carbon by mass.

(b) The density of the hydrocarbon in part (a) is 2.0 g L/l at 509°C and 0.948 atm.

1. Calculate the molar mass of the hydrocarbon.

2. Determine the molecular formula of the hydrocarbon.

solving equations by elimination mult/add

7x + 2y = -1
3x - 4y = 19

first i multiplied everything int he first equation by 3
so i now have 21x+ 6y = -3
and i multiplied everything in the second equation by 7 and got
21x - 28y = 133
then the 21x and 21x cross out
so i now have
6y = -3 and -28y = 130[add 133 and -3]
so next i subtracted 6y from -28y and got -22y = 130
now what? HELP! please!

I'm trying to locate a US source of live leeches, preferably, non-medicinal. The medicinal kind are fairly expensive. The leeches are for school use, and they need to be about 2"-3" in length. A dozen or so are ideal, but if necessary, I can deal with ordering 50, if the price is reasonable. Thanks.
