A gastroenterologist studies the stomach and portions of the digestive tract, but a general doctor that studies all of the internal organs within the body is usually referred to as an internist or internal medicine specialists. There are not many of these people though. Now there are usually clinics that are for Internal Medicine, and they will employee gastro guys, nephro guys (kidneys), diabetes specialists/metabolic diseases specialists, ect.
