List 8 adaptation on one animal

I'm trying to help my son solve a extra credit math problem, but am coming up totally stumped. Looking for some mathematicians to give some guidance here. I'm sorry about the formatting , but I haven't figured out a way to get it any better. L=Left R =Right * = the # that needs to be solved for. The dashed lines is my attempt to seperate the combinations. There are nine 3 digit combinations. Here's the problem.

The athletes training for the marathon all have combination locks on their lockers. Find the secret to figuring out the missing numbers for all of the combinations. Look carefully.

L R L--- L R L--- L R L---
12 9 5--- 7 8 *--- 11 * 6---

L R L--- L R L--- L R L---
10 5 *--- 4 16 *--- 3 * 18---

L R L--- L R L--- L R L---
8 9 *--- 2 14 *---- 13 7 *----

What numbers are missing from each combination. What is the secret, for all of them.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I am interested in buying an electric bike that has 2 batteries that opperate at 12v @ 10 amp hours. They are designed to work together to deliver 24v to a 450 watt (peak) motor at the front wheel. Unfortunately these are heavy SLA batteries, and I would like to replace them with state of the art Nanophosphate Litihium Ion batteries.

Now the kicker: I can only find 36v versions for use in DeWalt power tools (though they are very energy dense).

So what I am wondering is if I can buy 2 / 4 of these and wire them to deliver no more than 36v continuous to the 24v motor and will it improve performance or just burn up the components.

Also as an added question, if it is not possible to run 36 volts directly is there a controller that could accomplish this.

Thanks!

The motor is from Currie Technologies, specialists in electric bikes.

We finally make it to Mars. We find the remains of anciet cities and all kinds of civilization relics. But we don't find a single creature. Not even a bone or hair.
With you current scientific philosophy. Would you be forced to look for natural causes for the cities and relics? Or would you conclud that they were designed by, unseen and unknown, intelligent beings?

I have tried to understand it, with difficulty, and have come away with the conclusion that it means the observable universe exists only when we observe it. It's kind of like a whole lot of potential realities exist and we create the universe from them.
Any thoughts??
Don't be too hard on me, I'm a math guy who gave up on physics at quantum mechanics.
Too bad I had to side with Einstein. Perhaps God does play dice.

On the bottom right corner on paint you can change the length and width of the page and on the bottom they show numbers sorta like a grid or something... is there a way to figure out how big is an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. I already tried making the page 8 1/2 x 11 and its a tiny tiny square so i was thinking we cant use inches but i'm not the best at math we could say so if anyone knows post it here and ill give you 10 points.
