There is ALOT of biological research going on, and politicians play a role in some of the controversial issues, such as stem cell research and cloning to improve agricultural products. Where people have opinions on the efficacy of such research, politicians will rise to champion one side or the other.

Possibly the second most important role after the doctors themselves: poloticians usually have money to begin with, or if not, certanlly earn a substancial mount. They have the power to fund whichever projects they prefer, and by doing so, have the upper hand in research. When they disagree with the scientist due to morals or religion, for example, they can stop the experiment with a snap of their fingers. Boom! No more money, thus no more research.
I really hope I didn't just give you an answer on your homework.

The drive for the truth, will give them ability to push forth more funds towards this research. Unfortunatly there is alot of red tape to get though. The shytan will always make it hard for us to succeed with the good things, but inshAllah (God willing) that we get good politicians so we can push forward all areas not just biological inshAllah Tahalal :)
