you should take antibiotics if you have an infection but you have to take extra precautions for the duration of the course and for the week after that as the effectiveness of the pill is reduced. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice

The correct way to interpret the problem is: you should not trust your oral contraceptive for protection against pregnancy while you are taking an antibiotic for an infection.
The possibility of blocked absorbtion of the "pill" or the more rapid passage through the GI tract from diarrhea from the antibiotic can lead to accidental pregnancy.
Any antibiotic can cause diarrhea, therefore care should be taken with any antibiotic (not just oral).

All antibiotics can impact the effectiveness of the bc pill, so use a back up method of birth control while taking antibiotics. Consult call your pharmacist and/or doctor with further questions. www.webmd.com is a useful resource for medical questions also.

You should tell your doctor when he/she is going to give you antibiotics that you are taking birth control and to have the doctor tell you what is safe to take with it. Also when you get a prescription at the pharmacy it will tell you not to take this medicine if you are taking certain other drugs.

Best answer is just to check with your doctor first.

you can't take any antibiotics at all on any form of hormonal BC , they destroy the hormone , if you Dr. prescribes antibiotics you need to take them, and if you plan to have sex you MUST use condoms to prevent pregnancy no way around it.
