A woman of mass m stands at the edge of a solid cylindrical platform of mass M and radius R. At t=0, the platform is rotating with negligible friction at angular velocity ωo about a vertical axis through its center, and the person begins walking with speed v (relative to the platform) toward the center of the platform.

a. Determine the angular velocity of the system, as a function of time.
b.What will be the angular velocity when the woman reaches the center?

The present calendar was promulgated by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. It replaced the more than 1600-year-old Julian calendar that Julius Caesar instituted in the Roman Empire in 45 BC.

The Gregorian has several problems that it needs to be reformed. How would you like that we changeover to a perpetual calendar so that we don’t change the calendar anymore? The new calendar will still have 365 days in a common year and 366 days in a leap year, 12 months in a year starting from January 1 and ending on December 31, and with the same rules for leap year.

To make it perpetual and more uniform, we just make each quarter equal to 91 days or 13 weeks. The fourth quarter will have 92 days with December 31 as a no-weekday and an official public holiday throughout the world. During leap years, the second quarter will have 92 days also with June 31 as a no-weekday and a bonus public holiday.

No. This is not a joke. Please people. (funny though)

Anyway, last night from 9pm to 10pm I happened to saw a planet.

However I was very sure which planet it was. I am thinking maybe Uranus? As you know, it is just a day or two after a full moon and the planet was south of the moon. (meaning when i was facing the moon, the planet was behind me) It was also rather bright and did kind of stood out.

Also, I often get confused with spotting Jupiter and Saturn. I understand Jupiter is brighter but it is often hard to tell the difference between them. Can anyone help me with this also?

The direction cosines of a vector are the cosines of the angles it makes with the coordinate axes. The cosine of the angles between the vector and the x, y, and z axes are usually called in turn alpha, beta, and gamma. Prove that alpha^2 + beta^2 + gamma ^2 = 1, using either geometry or vector algebra.
(more interested in how to prove it with vector algebra, but geometry is fine too.)

Something like 99% of biologists think that evolution via natural selection explains the creation of human beings. Why do most people doubt this? And why do they think there is a controversy among scientists where none exists? It's true there are biologists (like Michael Behe) who doubt evolution. But the overwhelming majority do not doubt it.

Now, it's one thing to doubt Evolution, but it's entirely different to claim THAT THERE IS A CONTROVERSY AMONG SCIENTISTS WHERE NONE EXISTS.
