Here's a fun puzzle. You're going to go have dinner at your teacher's house. You know he has three kids, but you don't know anything else about them.

Once you get to his house, a boy answers the door. He says "my dad will be downstairs in just a second; you can wait in the kitchen." You wait as you're told, and soon your teacher comes downstairs. He hands you a beverage and says "my oldest child, my daughter Jane, should be home soon."

So, you've met one of his children, who happened to be a boy. You also know that the oldest of his three children is a girl. This means that he has one other child about which you know nothing. What is the probability that this other child is a girl?

(It's not 50%, if that's what you're wondering.)

I know that a complementary angle is 90 and a Supplementary is 180 but in the following questions Im not sure how to apply that to get an answer.

Determine whether the statement is ALWAYS,SOMETIMES, or NEVER true.

1.) If two angles are complematary they are both acute angles.

Im not sure if it means both angles combined or separate to be acute.

2.) If lines PN and PQ are perpendicular then angle NPQ is acute

My physics book, in the section on conservation of energy, says that energy cannot be created or destroyed. The book doesn't provide much of an example except for dropping a pen to the floor. The pen and the floor have a slight rise in temperature. If energy cannot be created or destroyed, it sounds to me like it has no beginning or end. So, if you didn't create the energy when you picked up and dropped the pen, where did it come from? After you drop the pen to the floor, there is a slight rise in the temperature of them both. Is this heat the energy? If so, where does it go when the heat is gone? I'm confused. This is my first class on physics.
