x + y + -5 = 2X

X + Y = 29

Do a bit of switch o roo....Y-5 = x..sub into second equation
Y-5+ Y = 29

2Y = 34
Y = 17
X =12

6 cause 6x2 = 12 12+5=17 12+17=29 so the number is 6

Let x= the first no.
therfore 29= x + (2x + 5) or (2x + 5) + x = 29
3x + 5 = 29
3x = 24
x = 8

Test it: 16 + 5 + 8 + 29
