The Pythagorean Converse: You can take a rope and tie 12 equally spaced knots in it. You can then use the rope to check that a corner is a right angle. Why does this methos work?

Weird question, I know, but here is the background. A friend and I have been arguing about how long we would live if old age or sickness wasn't a factor. For example, the only way you would die would be by some kind or accident or human intervention. Assuming you lived a normal life (planes, trains, automobiles, city life), my friend thinks that the average expected lifespan would be around 250, and you'd be most likely killed in a car wreck eventually. I think it would be a lot longer.
If there are any actuaries or people good with calculating expected life spans I'd be interested in hearing what they thought.

Thanks in advance

I would really like to study geology and earth sciences when I go to university, but I'm not sure why I should go into this science. I know alot about the earth and I care for geology alot, but I don't know if it would be a good career for me, basically because I don't know what the carrer would involve. Can anyone tell me what it involves at what skills you should have to go into this field?

This connector is used with plastic tubing and is inserted into a rubber stopper (which is in turn inserted into a waste flask). The 'wings' are for holding the tubing in place. Previously this connector is believed to have been bought through Fisher Scientific, but recent searches (with out knowing the name of this item) have not yielded results. If anyone has any suggestions of where to obtain this or what this is called it would be greatly appreciated. Please see image at http://ww1.pureupload.com/pupload/view/8833.

i was just wondering if light is the fastest thing, my reasoning is this, because of how we are measuring it, we are using 2 other tangable elements, ie distance and time so how can it be faster if both time and distance are already there?

I have worked to create several equations. They relate to the measurement of empirical probability. With them, I feel that I can give accurate predictions for items in a series of events. The only thing is that I am an ametuer, so I need an experienced professional to check out my theory...Is there anyone out there who qualifies or at least knows where I can go to get some help w/ this? Pls. leave an aswer or send a message to my e-mail if you think that you can help me out.....

Forever Grateful,

bcam :-)

I'm imagining getting beaned by a ball in a lower gravity field. It seems pretty clear that one would be able to throw a heavy ball higher and farther than in a higher gravity field. But if the ball hit me, would it do as much damage to my head on impact? What if it were much denser than a normal ball, i.e. made of metal? Could I take a shot in the melon and be okay?

I have heard that you can add an external resistor to the positive in line, after estimating what the amps might be, to the meter and than use a formula which incorporates the ohms of the resistor and the amount of amps that the meter displays. Basically what is the formula for this and how do I go about it?
