Is it true that a comet will hit the Earth in the year 2036 and will be able to destroy a whole country?

Asteroid 99942 Apophis was once considered to have a fairly high chance of hitting Earth in 2036, but new observations have all but ruled that out. This asteroid is not large enough to destroy a country but could destroy a city if it hit one. It could also cause a tidal wave if it hit in the ocean.

There is question as to one will pass close enough to enter the gravity keyhole.. I saw a blurb about one coming within 1AU of earth in 2036, this is outside the moon's orbit. The one I saw was closer then Apophis at it's closest estimate which could put it in an orbital pattern for future collision. The "risk" factor doesn't indicate it is eminant or even expected.

Actually I've heard that too and there is/was some truth to it. The comet is called 99942 Apophis and could actually come close, but not likely. Check out the links below.

possibly...but they keep telling us that critical things are going to happen..remember Y2K and all that messed stuff...nothing ever happens, its surely just something to talk about,otherwise you'd be hearing about it moreso on the news!!! Its just media!!

Dunno.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh. But really, probably not. If we can't predict the weather more than 2 days in advance, do you think we can predict when a comets gonna hit us? We can guess... but probably not. The comet that they think will hit use could get hit by something it's self! You never know.... Duh Duh DUN!!
