Don't know for sure -- I would guess it depends a bit on where exactly you live, so don't quote me on this, please. However, if you are in the U. S., East Coast, it might be a simple green snake (go figure [LOL!!]) and so quite harmless. Check out the site below and see if this is it. Anyway, as with most snakes, if you don't bother it, it won't bother you. So, worst case scenario -- just leave it alone and it will go away.

It is a common grass snake. It is very harmless.
