If I had a fairly bog-standard am/fm/sw radio, (or even a TV) and was on the moon, could I pick up any radio signals from the Earth?

Just to let you know and everyone else that seems to be under the illusion that it takes years for radio waves to travel the distance to the moon. They travel at the speed of light, hence live broadcasts. Radio waves have been capable of travelling outside of the atmosphere for nearly 70 years. Most big radio stations transmit signals strong enough to get to space. Plus, digital radio goes there anyway. You could get most of you fav stations

I think you would pick up some old stuff - I saw in the Jodie Foster movie Contact that radiowaves will reach out there. The first one powerful enough was meant to have been made by Hitler so I am sure that you could pick up something there. I am not a scientist tho - just a movie watcher!

Radio Active? If not, you should have little problem picking up some earth-based radio broadcasts; Short-wave would probably be the best bet.

I don't think so, to transmit enough power to your standard radio the station on earth will need to aim their signal there. I don't think any station is currently directing their signal to the moon.

It is possible to pick up radio waves in space but they might be from 10 years a go radio wave still travel the same speed as they did then. so it take longer to get there.but they keep traveling they don't run out of gas.

It took billions of dollars, thousands of tonnes of rocket fuel and hundreds of people to get you there, so on the moon, you should be concentrating on your work. Not listening to the radio, golfing, jumping, singing or riding about in buggies. OK?

We are able to listen radio signals from the Milky Way which is 100,000 light years across.

So where is your problem ?
