Everywhere, we are quoting height from MSL. If an aircraft is flying at a height of say, 10Km above sea level. Then will it be equal height the core (centre) of earth - if it is flying over meridian sea or a sea near Polar region ?

When I was younger (not so long ago) I read that there was a ridge in the atlantic. Apparently this ridge was hundreds of metres in depth??
Does anyone what I am talking about? And more importantly does anybody know the name of this?

how do we know if water is wet or not? the truth is we will never know . we onlyt think we know because when WE touch water WE become wet as with anything that touches it but to itself how do we know if it classes itself wet??

I saw it the other night on CBS, so I wonder just how accurate the numbers are about the tidal wave at the end...the height, how fast it is & how far it reached inland. So if that were to happen, how much of it are they really getting from scientific fact based on a some lab model?

I'm sure that in reality, the wave height would be huge and probably move fast, but 600 miles inland, (as the movie said), even for an impact from space?

(I figured I'd just put this question in the Astronomy section, by the way.)
