An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Newton 1st Law is called the Law of Inertia.
In simple language it means that for something to move power must be applyied to overcome Inertia power. So when power is applied two forces come into play= one the force due to applied power and the other is the reative force of Intertia.
There is no so thing as umbalanced forces since forces can only exist in pairs and are always equal in magnetude and 180 degrees out of phase.
Hence saying that force is the cause of motion is a misconception of the Law of Inertia.

F=m*a is newtons second law not first. Newtons 1st law in one word: Inertia.
