Newborn & Baby - February 2007

My husband and I only have animal kids so I'm very excited about this baby of whom I feel like an aunt to, but I'm very inexperienced, I don't even think I've held a baby in the last 10 years!
Please throw out any helpful tips you may have. My friend is breast-feeding and has a breast pump, they have 2 boston terriers, going to use Pampers swaddlers, if that prompts anything..

Fussiness has just recently started and I'm not sure it's entirely due to gas. We are using special bottles and gentle formula but, infant will just start crying. Especially during the night time. Just cry and cry. It's heartbreaking and I really want to provide some kind of comfort. Daytime is better but not fussy free. Sometimes movement helps; using the infant swing or patting the baby's back. Other times seems like nothing helps.

My baby is 8 1/2 weeks and for the past 5 days my nipples have been dry cracked and severly sore. Breast feeding has been so painful even in different positions. My baby is latching on just fine. Showering is even painful so I've been taking baths. I've been using Lansinoh and it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference. Any suggestions. Should I pump until they heal?

My daughter is almost 6 months old. She is a great sleeper, sleeping for 5-6 hr stretches at night. She is taking 2-3 naps per day also. She seems to have set her schedule for going to bed at 5:00pm. She has done this for months now, and then wakes up in the morning between 4:30 and 5. I would like for her to go to bed later, to sleep in later. I have tried to push her naps back and her bedtime routine back, but it is as if she knows that it is bedtime, and her tiredness takes over, and the tears just keep coming until she goes to bed for nite nite. I am wondering if I should try to add another nap? Or spread them out different? She is up for 2 -3 hrs, down for 2-3 hrs, which seems to work great. Any thoughts??? Thanks!

I know this sounds crazy and I appreciate the answers from my last question about my sons tongue. He doesn't just seem like he is playing with it. It seems like he has a dry mouth. Even after he has just ate. When he sleeps it is pressed against his lips with his mouth opened slightly. I never seen a baby do it before. I am really worried because he already has a heart murmur and a vessel that did not close that was suppose to when he was born. My daughter never did this. I had gestational diabetes with him as well and he was born four weeks early at 9lbs 7oz. and now weighs 12 pounds and is 23 1/2 inches long. I am sorry if this sounds like I am crazy, but I just never seen it before.

My son hasn't been having regular bowl movements for the past couple of weeks. He will go like 5 days with nothing and then get really fussy and cry/scream like he's in pain. Today he was doing that and passing a lot of gas. It had been about a week since his last bowl movement so I gave him an enema and he went a lot and was better afterward. For some reason he's having a hard time going on his own. Is he too young to give like an ounce of prune juice and some water? Do you know of any natural solutions that would be safe for a baby this young?

My son is 6 weeks old and he is always playing with his tongue and sticking it out. He is right on target with everything and seems to be doing well, but I never seen a baby do this. Has anyone ever seen it before or has their child done this? Is this normal??

Why can't she just fall asleep? Besides the vacuum, white noise, etc.., what else can I do to shorten that crying process?

My other question is about cluster feeding. I bottle feed her and I'm wondering what is the best way to stop the feeding after an hour or two. She used to go 3-4 hours in between feedings, but all of a sudden, she wants sooner. Her Dr said that she can take more than 2oz at a time, but when I give her 3, she never finishes it. What the heck am I doing wrong here? The Dr also told me to not feed her until the 3 hour mark, but she will cry and cry until then. She said that I need to start the tough love. It's not the best!

Anybody have advice? I would love to know them!!! Thanks!!

I am doing a science fair project and need to take an online survey to see what brand of diapers people prefer. It does not need to be brand name. Thank-you! = ]

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I haven't had any sign of lactating? Is this normal?

2007-02-22 11:02:06 · 16 answers · asked by SuiteNezi 2

I'm a first time Mom and I'm 35 weeks pregnant. During my pregnancy, everyone has put their two cents in on what I need and don't need and the one item that has received the most backlash is the bassinet! I have a bassinet on my baby registry and everyone has been telling me that we won't even need it. It's just SOOOO cute, we can't resist the urge to buy it, but I don't want to feel like we're wasting our money, either. Plus, I won't be ready to put the baby in his or her room just yet. Are bassinets really necessary? I'm just trying to get some feedback.

One more question, if we decide against the bassinet, does anyone have any other ideas on where I can put Nugget (our nickname for the baby) during the first month or two?

Thanks!

I am creating a Keepsake Treasure Box for a new arrival in our extended family. I need some good ideas for a suggestion list for the new parents, so they can begin filling the box. Please post any and all ideas you have, no matter how obvious you might think they are. I could use lots of help!
