My oldest child is smarter than the average 2 year old. Everyone thinks she's older than she really is because she's tall and because her speech is so advanced. But I don't think of her as particularly gifted, just a little more advanced than other children her age.

Her five month old sister, on the other hand, seems to be incredibly intelligent... but I always chalked it up to a different personality than her sister's. She's extremely interested in books and is a very observant, always quietly watching everyone. She's meeting her milestones earlier too, but I wouldn't consider that to be a sign of giftedness. A girlfriend of mine said to me tonight, "she's going to be your kid that is reading at 2 1/2! She's your genius child." Well, I don't like labeling kids especially so early, but I've always felt there's something really special about this baby of mine. So that got me thinking... can you tell if a child is gifted at the tender age of 5 months? Or is that way too young?

Ok I do not want to sound like a horrible mother but here is the thing.. I just had my first child 3 weeks ago..I currently stay at home while in the process of looking for a job plus I would like to be at home with the baby since he was just born while my husband goes to work. I am just getting so stressed because at times which is not very often but when it does happen its stressfull he is VERY fussy and does nothing but cry I do everything I can and still he crys but will stop and then cry again. This does not happen often hes actually a good baby. Anyways I just get so angry at myself because I feel as if I am not doing anything right or something because he just continues to cry. Not only that..at night when he wakes up every 3-4 hours for feedings my husband does that and changes him if needed. I usually stay asleep but at times I will also help,my husband says I need to help also..wasnt 9 months and during the days he works enough? Does anyone agree? I mean arent nights my break

I had a emergency c-section due to the fetal distress. I am worried that if my ob cut baby's cord before he cried. I heard the cry right away when he was out.

I have read that baby can have a shock if the cord got cut before he cires. Some relates early cutting to Autism, ADD and all. Is there rule for doctors about when to cut the cord?

She's 3 months old now and I've been strictly bf'ing her. Now it's time for me to go back to work. The problem is that she wants mommy mommy mommy ALL THE TIME. I'm not complaining though. I am constantly in close contact with her, whether it's feeding time, reading time, play time, tummy time, etc. The problem is I can't leave her with anyone else or she'll cry her guts out, no one can seem to calm her down until I take her away from them. We've done dry runs already with her caregiver just so she can get some exposure before I start working but she just absolutely dislikes it. Even her own daddy cant get her to calm down. I'm running out of ideas, I don't know what else to do. Did I get her too used to being held by me? Probably so, but anyone else have this situation?

I have a preemie. She is now 3 months old.She was only 3lb when born.Well anyone w/children knows that yo should wash your hands before making contact w/them.Well of course with a preemie you have to be way more careful.Well everyone thinks because my daughter is so big to be a preemie of 3 months that she has a regular immune system.Well she doesnt.I hate when people come in off the streets and touch her.I have asked them to wash thier hands but they act as if they forget the next time around. Now its pissing me off because if my child ends back in the hospital Im going to spaz.and another thing my childs father his sister keeps asking me when can she go out?Every other week.I have explained to her that she cant be out in the streets from house to house b/c she's a preemie and its RSV season. She keeps asking how to I handle these issues w/o being rude?

My sister is trying to breastfeed her 1 week old little girl. She had a difficult delivery and the 2nd and 3rd day she breast feed the baby only a few times. She gave extra formula with a bottle. She is now better and trying very hard to breastfeed. Her milk has come in but it does not seem like it is a lot. She started feeding from the breast every two hours then pumping to stimulate further to get her body to produce more milk. This seems to be working but it is still not enough to satisfy the baby. She tries pumping and after emptying both breast she gets not quite an ounce of milk. She can milk her breast with her fingers and still get milk out but when she tries to pump she gets nothing. Any suggestions. She also bought the top of the line pump so I do not believe it is the pump itself. PLEASE HELP SO SHE DOES NOY GET FRUSTRATED AND QUITS. SHE REALLY WANTS TO BE ABLE TO BREASTFEED. THANKS!

I've been breast feeding for nearly 9 months, and have never had a problem with sore breasts, but today my left breast is so sore, it feels as though someone punched it or feels bruised, any ideas on why this is happening ? (I haven't hit it on anything, the only thing I can think of is that I missed my feed last night, and my right breast was engorged this morning, but my left breast was okay...)

A lady just e-mailed me, & although I appreciate the concern, it kinda makes me mad.
She said I shouldn't have my baby's picture as my avatar because somebody might try to kidnap him. It's a small picture, you really can't see what he looks like & nobody knows his name, my name or where I live. I could be anywhere in the world!
What do you think about her e-mail and about having my baby, that it took me over 15 years to have that I am very proud of, as my avatar?? THANKS!

My daughter is 11 days old and I am breastfeeding her. She is getting up every 4-5 hours instead of 2 which is fine because she gained 3.5 ounces in 3 days which they say is great. But the problem is that my breasts are sooo sore because they are constantly full of milk since she is not eating as often. This has been happening for days. Should I pump to relieve pain and store the milk? Will this ever even itself out? Any other advice?
