As long as the meconium has passed, he's not straining to poop, then he's not constipated. Some babies go a week without having a bowel movement. I would ask the doctor about the suppository, as for Karo syrop, I would pass on that until he/she's a few months older.

At 1 week old, most bf babies are still having at least one or two bowel movements a day. i wouldn't definitely NOT give Karo syrup to a newborn!! And no suppositories either. Take the baby to the doc and see what s/he says.

I would say that you should not give the baby suppositories or Karo syrup. You should call the babies pediatrician. If the baby hasn't had a bowel movement in 4 days then that could mean that they are not getting enough to eat.

If the baby is only receiving breastmilk (no forumla or solid food), it is normal for the baby to go a week and a half without a bowel movement. (That's what my pediatrician told me.)
If you're concerned, I heard that giving Karo syrup (just a tiny drop in some water) works well. I think light. Ask your pediatrician to make sure.

Do not us the suppository,!!!!!!!!! The karo syrup should be the light or clear. But, it is best to call the babys doctor. Maybe the baby can take an ounce of warm water once in a while.

I'm sure you shouldn't be giving them karo syrup at that age.
But after four days if she can't do a do I'd definitely give her a 2-gram childrens' glycerin suppository.

First thing she needs to do is call the baby's physician! Second a suppository would be OK if the Dr. says its OK. And third I gave my children dark Karo syrup at that age.

Gee, ain't it grand you come on a public forum where anyone can claim to be anything, a doctor, a mother, or hey even God himself to give you advise on your child's health and well being but in fact they are simply a pimply faced teen who hasn't seen the light of day for a week since he keeps locked up in his room, on the computer pretending to have all these answers.
With a question involving the health of your child, call the doctor!!!

No suppositories!!! (Without talking to the baby's pediatrician anyway.)
Babies sometimes go this long between BM's
Especially breast fed ones.
Unless the baby is in distress (crying, in pain etc.) just wait it out.
Infant massage of the tummy can help with getting things going again too. I got this book and highly recommend it for help with tummy troubles, teething etc. (Baby Massage: The Calming Power of Touch / by Alan Heath, Nicki Bainbridge http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Massage-Calming-Power-Touch/dp/0756602467/sr=8-1/qid=1162091760/ref=sr_1_1/002-8178354-4320828?ie=UTF8&s=books )
Sick babies look sick and Mommy instincts are good ones. She'll know if there's something wrong.
Take care

My doctor said that it is most important that my baby has regular bowel movements. She is 12 days old and we were just having this conversation on wednesday. Your sister should call up to the maternity ward at the hospital where she had her baby or call her ped immediatly.
