I hope if you give your child an unusually spelled/pronounced name such as Vinessa that you also raise her to be accepting of other people's spelling errors.
I am constantly amazed at the number of students I teach who have very unique names who are hostile if anyone ever mispronounces or misspells their name.

Vinessa is not a bad name, but it will be misspelled constantly. I work with a woman named Kristen, and her name is misspelled about 5 different ways. Tessa looks like it sounds, and it has a nice ring to it. I vote for Tessa.

I like Tessa, I'm not fond of the spelling "Vinessa" and that name is not that uncommon.

Well my daughters go by the names of Nyoka and Alaysia,
Alaysia is pronounced
A like in Approach ( not apple )
Lay like May
Sia like Asia without the A
Nyoka is pronounced
NY like My
O like in Oklahoma
a like in apple

Tess(a) is ADORABLE! Not a totally uncommon sounding name but uncommon because there are not that many Tess(a)'s out there .

aww my name is tessa...that is the first time i have heard of someone else w/ it. i love vienna, and others. I keep lists of neat names that you rarely hear for my children and grandchildren. If interested in some of htem, let me know!
