I had a emergency c-section due to the fetal distress. I am worried that if my ob cut baby's cord before he cried. I heard the cry right away when he was out.

I have read that baby can have a shock if the cord got cut before he cires. Some relates early cutting to Autism, ADD and all. Is there rule for doctors about when to cut the cord?

i have never heard of any of that. my mom is a preschool special ed teacher and that is absurd. the baby will be fine and it has nothing to do with cutting the cord. babies are born c-section all the time and the doctors know what they are doing. chill out and enjoy. congrats!!

It's not so much about when they cry.
Babies ideally have their cords cut after the cord has stopped pulsing. That takes up to around 20 minutes but can take less than 5 minutes. Each birth is different..
WIth my son, they placed him on my chest, covered us both us, and let that happen. Then they used this squeegy kind of thing to push the blood into him from of the cord, clamped things off and let my husband cut the cord. This was at our request.
That can be up to 20% of their blood. If they don't have that, or if they get really cold, it can cause blood sugar issues.
Many hospitals routinely keep and sell that cord blood now, instead of pushing it back into the babies. It's money in their pockets.
With a section, there is the issue of the longer the mother is cut open, the more likely infections from the air in the surgery and some other complications are. So her health issues and the baby's have to be weighed. If I'd had a section, I'm pretty sure my son's cord would've been cut sooner than it was so they could reduce my risk of infection..
My daughter's cord was cut immediately, that blood was not pushed back into her,(not according to what we wanted) and she had blood sugar issues for most of our hospital stay which was longer because of that issue. (took til the 3rd day to level out)
That is pretty common.

My oldest son is an OB-GYN and he says that this is just a myth. No honey, there is no rule about when to cut the cord and I'm sure from having 2 of my 3 children by C-Section, that the doctor made certain your baby was breathing normally before doing anything else. They don't always cry first, take it from an ole grandmother. Congrats on a healthy baby. :-)

Babies really should have their cords cut after they stop pulsating. But for some reason OB's like to cut it immediately. Delaying the cord clamping and cutting can increase the number of blood cells in the baby's body and can help babies at risk for anemia not become anemic (as proved by a recent study)

I have three children. All 3, the umbi cord was cut first. It is my understanding that a child doesn't HAVE to cry until afterwards because the baby is still getting the oxygen through the cord. A doc isn't worried unless it doesn't cray afterwards. When it is cut doesn't really matter though. I'm a pediatric nurse by the way.

Thats a bunch of s**t, my son could not breath when he was born the cord was wraped around his neck 7 times , he could not cry they cut they cord & treated him. Your baby was in distress the cut the cord & gave him imediate medical attention as needed. My son is fine perfectly normal, so will yours be, do not believe everything you read or you will be a paranoied mom.

The umbilical cord can be cut safely after it stops pulsating (meaning the blood has stopped flowing through it). It has nothing to do with the baby crying.

by way of fact that is easiest for the docs this manner, so as that they might take your toddler and do all varieties of exams on toddler (weigh, degree, etc etc etc). that is only mandatory to diminish the cord in the present day if there are issues that desire on the spot interest. I had one toddler's cord decrease in the present day at start by way of fact she got here out blue and mandatory a breath, and because her cord replace into wrapped tightly round her neck it replace into the terrific thought for her. My 2nd toddler's cord replace into not wrapped so we stored it intact till it stopped pulsating, at which era we decrease the cord (daddy decrease it rather). protecting the cord intact till it starts off pulsating is maximum suitable, because it will strengthen iron stages in the baby toddler. There are not any solid motives for the habitual slicing of the umbilical cord in each and every toddler, yet there are various solid motives to enable it supply up pulsating first. That suggested, slicing the cord too early will not harm babies. It only isn't the perfect subject for babies to be in. they might desire to get their cord blood, if available.
