Newborn & Baby - August 2006

My husband is so frustrated because he can't do anything to soothe our fussy newborn. The only thing that calms her down is my breast & I think he is starting to resent me & the baby. I want to continue breastfeeding because I know it's best for the baby & I read that supplementing formula is bad for her intestional tract. Does anyone have any suggestions!? Thanks.

She still has a small piece of umbilical cord stump, so I know it's not supposed to get wet, but she kinda smells bad (from spitting up on herself & whatnot). So, I need some detailed instructions or a good link about how to give a sponge bath because I'm a little clueless. Thanks!

Why does my newborn sometimes latch on & then start whimpering & release the latch only to start crying & then reattach to the breast (over & over again)?

This is resulting in sleepless nights! Help!

My sister had a little girl on August 24, about 4 days old now. At a little less than 2 days old, they discovered that her bilirubin levels were high. They started her on therapy with the bili-lights. Her levels are going down. Yesterday, the nurses said that they had been having to "stimulate her bowel movements". I'm assuming rectally because they said that they didn't want to do it too often, cuz it would make her bottom sore. They had to do that twice yesterday because she hasn't been going on her own. We're a little worried. Has anybody had this problem with their newborn??? Hopefully someone could tell us what could be causing this. The baby is still in the hospital, so hopefully they will get to the bottom of the problem, but in the meantime...I was just trying to find out some possible issues that it could be.

At her work she can still be full-time at 30 hours. However, i think that's alot. I would rather it be 24 hours. Three 8 hour days. She may ask if she can work one day at home to fill in the gap. She's thinking it may be better to work 5 days,6 hours per day so she's not away from the baby all day long on her work days. She's still torn if she's wants to work at all, but she does like her job and i think it's good for her sanity. However, there has to be a balance.Any suggestions from mothers who work and raise a family.

I'd like to give my friend s nice gift for the birth of her second daughter but don't want it to be a double of what she already has from the elder one. Any ideas?

My baby seems to be really fussy after nursing, which I'm pretty sure is from gas. My other two had a lot of fussiness/gas as infants also. Usually burping them, giving gas drops, or holding their stomachs helped. I'm just to the point now that I need another solution. What foods should I avoid which may be causing this problem? Or is there anything else I can do?

Just got back from the doctor - my 6 month old daughter is 28 inches long and weighs 15.5 pounds??? Last month she weighed 15 lbs, and at four months weighed 14 lbs 10 oz, what do you think? What did your children measure at this age?

I want to get pictures done this next weekend of my newborn, but she just seems to have lots of white heads on her face and to be getting more. And I don't want them to ruin the pictures. I've heard before that you aren't suppose to scrub them or squeeze them. But I was wondering if anyone has found a way to get rid of them that's doctor approved?

We have gotten the go ahead from our Pediatrician to fly to Nevada this weekend with our baby. Our daughter will be meeting her grandpa for the first time and we are wondering what we can bring. Obviously we need a car seat. Can this be brought on board? or does it have to be checked? Any other advice would be great.

I have an 8 week old son (first baby) who is doing just fine. Just a slight problem, when he is feeding (bottle formula SMA Gold) and I stop to burp him, he is sometimes very cooperative and burps on cue, but of late he doesn't bring much wind up and I'm sure it contributes to a grumpy mood with accompanying bad belly (at least that's what I think it is). I have tried Infacol which doesn't seem to have any effect. Is this normal or am I getting the technique wrong - sitting him upright, gently rubbing and patting his back? Thanks.

I can't sleep for nothing I'm having A c-section on the 31st and I have so many things going through my mind. I had A ultrasound done A few days ago and It was A 4d ultrasound and I showed It to my mom and she asked what is wrong with her face I guess because the picture seems to look like she has lumps on her face that really hurt my feeling what kind of mother says that I already have enough to worry about. If something was wrong with her face the doctor would of told me right?

A friend had a baby girl - a month early - and hasn't registered for anything and isn't well prepared. Does anyone know of any good things to get - lotions, toys, bottles, educational/developmental aids? Any help, greatly appreciated!

I am flipping out, I am going all the way accross the country and leaving my baby for 10 days. He is 9 months on the day I leave and I am flying my mom here to watch him so I know he will be in good hands. I just am a mess! I leave in less than a week and have never spent more than 12 hours away from him. I made the decision to leave him here because we will be hiking and going to bachelorette/bachelor parties - o going for a wedding - DID i mess up, am I even going to be able to enjoy myself?? What can I do to ease the worry and seperation anxiety for both of us???? :(

I'm just about to become a father. Due to a lot of work and total renovation of my appartment, I have had no time to sit down and really think through what it will take for being a good dad during the first couple of months.

I was wondering if some fathers out there had some advice about things you did well or less well during your children's first months.

My son is scheduled to arrive in about 1 week so please don't hesitate to share your experiences right away!
