If this is a childs reaction to being held or approached by a stranger, then I would say about 6 months.

infant recognizes well his people around max. by age of 5 months n for strangers it takes time depends on his/ her nature. some r easy go round n others stubborns r not able to leave his / her mother n go to any other person.

Different ages for different babies. My 14m boy just started he's doesn't cry but gets real quite. He relaxes quickly though and we don't make a big deal just takeing them out often helps them relize people won't hurt them.
