Are there any appropriate ways to discipline an older teenager, particularly ones who are college students who are home for the summer?

Obviously, they are way too old for stuff like "No TV" or "No video games." And I'm sure that most people would argue that even "grounding" them for a week or two is no longer appropriate at that age.

It just seems like there are two opposite extremes for dealing with discipline problems for kids that age - a lecture (but no real punishment) for smaller problems, or throwing them out of the house (which seems absurd to do to a 19 year old unless it is a very serious problem.)

Is there any sort of appropriate, in-between "substantive" discipline to deal with problems that actually require something more than just a lecture? If they choose to live at home at that age, they still have to abide by some basic rules, and there should be some consequences for breaking the rules.

So recently my friend Dan invited a bunch of us to his house for a pool party. I don't swim a lot, so I needed to get a bathing suit. My mom couldn't take me, so she said to just go buy one by myself.
I bought a plain, black halter bikini which I don't think is too revealing.
Here it is: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?catId=cat90090&productId=0461_2077_teal

And the bottoms are underneath it, just simple bikini bottoms.

But I showed my Mom the swimsuit and she flipped out! She said it wasn't appropraite for someone my age to wear a bikini (I'm 15) and I have no idea why! All my other friends have been wearing them since they were 10!

I really just want to wear this bikini- all my other friends will be wearing them. :( I guess it's peer pressure, but I don't want to be left out. Also, I hate tankinis so please don't suggest that (it feels weird to have that empty spot between your stomach and tankini bottom).

How can I to convice my Mom to let me wear it?

I was married to my oldest daughters father at 19 before she was born. We ended up separating when she was 18 months and our divorce was final when she was 3. It was an abusive marriage and I have all the court documents to prove it. To make a long story short he was in and out of her life from the time we separated until shortly after she turned 4 (she is almost 15 now) at which time the court temporarily suspended his parental rights until he got counseling, anger management and parenting classes. He has never complied. The whole time we were going through our divorce and custody stuff his family NEVER came to court, never really expressed much interest in our daughter etc.

My friend saw my ex SIL this morning and she asked if she thought I'd let her see DD. I'm so mad what gives her the right to all of a sudden decide almost 11 years later she wants to see her? WHere was she earlier? I never would have kept her from my SIL!

Am I over reacting or would you be mad too?

I posted yesterday that we were finally going to have another baby after a year of trying. Much to my surprise, The answers team deleted the question for inappropriate content and said it was against community guidelines. This happen to anyone else?

Please don't post any answers about going with the epidural, I'm looking for ideas about alternative methods (ie not epi, pethidine or gas). The only one I know of is the labout TENS machine. If anyone has any suggestions about alternatives they have tried (whether it worked or not) I'd love to hear it.

My mother has multiple sclorosis (disabled) and can no longer keep my brother in line. He is really out of control and the only other option is a group home or foster care. Also any financial info. for grants to help pay for tuition would be helpful

If so, what age do you think this should stop? My husband and I had a debate about this last night. We also wondered if it was a cultural thing (he is European and I am American). Thanks!

I like the name Zoey alot but I am having trouble finding a good middle name for it. I DO NOT want anything traditional like Marie or Ann. I think Zoey Adriana is cute, but I want to hear more possibilities.
