I don't think it's a great girl name - chat???!!! just the teasing potential alone puts me off. And what if she is destined to go to France, it would be very strange for her there!
How about Chantelle or Chanella.

If you like the name and wouldn't mind calling him/her that for the rest of their life then go for it...I personally like traditional names and names everyone can pronounce...realize that children are only children for about 11 years so something that sounds good on a 2 year old will have to sound good on a 22 yr old and a 52 year old..these babies are going to be professionals, mothers, fathers, and aunts unckles and so on. When I was naming my children i would always put the name Dr. in front of there formal names...ex: Dr. Benjamin T. Miller...My daughter I put the word mayor...Mayor Maureen R. Moser. Judge Seth A miller, Now of course I went through months trying to figure out a name and when I seen the faces of my children, I just knew their names..All the guess thinking did me no good, had never thought of any of the names before they were born.

NOOOOOOOO. Don't do it. That has so much harassment potential it's not even funny. Kids in school will torment that poor kid forever. Plus all I think of when you say Chateau is skiing and wine.

I wouldn't be comfortable having a child named with something that may provoke teasing or taunting from peers in the cruel school years.

I don't know of anyone by that name, but it would make a pretty girls name if paired with another such as: "Chateau Marie".

I think you should name your child what you want to name her. I believe in being unique. Everyone tried to convience me to spell my daughter's name like eveybody else. I named her Belynda Leigh after the movie...Johnny Belinda and Janet Leigh who starred in the original movie. DARE TO Be Different. When your child is grown she will be glad you taught her that.

I have never heard it as a name before, and I would never have thought of that... but, you know, it's really not bad. Not my favorite, but not bad at all.
