I've read some of the definitions of patriotism that some of the contributers have provided, including loving your country, and trying to do good for it. My question is, who was the greater patriot; Adolf Hitler, or Claus von Stauffenberg? Both could be considered patriots, according to some of the opinions I've read.

You would have to be dumb at best not to suspect the timing of congresses condemnation of Turkey. What it has nothing to do with Iraq or the President.

Iraq in recent months, leading some generals to advocate a declaration of victory over the group"

As wonderful as this news is, how long do you think it will take before the Bushists start railing without evidence about how upset the Democrats must be--after all, it only makes sense that liberal Americans fantasize about being enslaved by a worldwide Islamic theocracy!

Ever wonder why politics can't just be politics? Maybe religion feels left out then some fanatic finds the hot button through religion to start hate and cause war? Should we the U.S. learn from the fanatics of religion using politics or will it just never happen here?

WE HAVE A NEW SYNDROME, TYPE 1, GUTLESS
By Dr. Laurie Roth Ph.D. October 12, 2007
http://www.newswithviews.com/Roth/laurie81.htm

There seems to be no end to the hallucinogenic influences of our "sensitivity" issues regarding those who break the law and try to kill us. Because this set of responses and behaviors of over sensitivity can be seen literally everywhere, i.e. congress, court rooms, judges, jails and schools, I am going to join the sensitive and misguided bandwagon and create another
mental health syndrome to describe this. After all, my Ph.D. is in counseling. I will call this national obsession……Type 1, GUTLESS Syndrome (Guilty, Universal, Tripping, Love, Endless Sensitivity Syndrome).

The Democrats, as a political party, made the choice to support slavery and oppose civil rights.

This continued well after the civil war with the party lobbying with the KKK to establish the House Un-American Activities Committee(HUAC, the "commie blacklisters") which was never abolished and only changed it's name to the House Judiciary Committee in the 70s.

In fact even as the party began shifting policies through the 40's and into the 60s the majority of Democrats still opposed the 1964 Civil Rights act.

Before anyone starts claiming "Southern Democrats" please remember that both New York State and California nearly seceded from the union to join the Confederacy and that Democrats in New York City protested the Civil War by lynching blacks from street lamps.

We are conquerors, not a united group of states. We destroyed and killed those who lived here before us. Why would we claim otherwise? We preach peace and democracy and freedom when it fits our mood. But the birth of our very nation was carved out of the blood and souls of those undeserving victims who came before us. Why do we lie to ourselves? Aren't we just another empire like the many in history before us?

Do we continue to expand ourselves? Why are we fighting now?

Partly it’s a reaction to what happened in 2000, when the American people chose Mr. Gore but his opponent somehow ended up in the White House. Both the personality cult the right tried to build around President Bush and the often hysterical denigration of Mr. Gore were, I believe, largely motivated by the desire to expunge the stain of illegitimacy from the Bush administration.

And now that Mr. Bush has proved himself utterly the wrong man for the job — to be, in fact, the best president Al Qaeda’s recruiters could have hoped for — the symptoms of Gore derangement syndrome have grown even more extreme.
