Iraq in recent months, leading some generals to advocate a declaration of victory over the group"

As wonderful as this news is, how long do you think it will take before the Bushists start railing without evidence about how upset the Democrats must be--after all, it only makes sense that liberal Americans fantasize about being enslaved by a worldwide Islamic theocracy!

"You never hear of good things like this, you only hear about the "bomb of the day" from our media."

Take as long as you need to figure out what's wrong with this, we'll be right here

Awww, I know you lefties want to have the freedom to spout off...and want to stifle my freedom to do the same. Nah, I'll never say you want to be enslaved by worldwide Islamic theocracy, I'd just say that libs don't know how to deal with violent and forceful people.

Ooooh! I know. GW should put on full air force pilot gear, get on an air carrier with a gigantic 'mission accomplished' sign! That would be great!

Irreversible blow, eh? Can't wait! Does this mean we can now get out of Iraq? Now that we've dealt an irreversible blow? Or does that word potential kind of take the steam out of it? Sounds like the same old song and dance to me. Excuse me if I'm a bit skeptical these days of the administration claiming victory in Iraq. Especially over a group that didn't exist until we helped create it by going into Iraq. Is Al Qaeda somehow different from 'Al Qaeda in Iraq'? I would assume that Al Qaeda is Al Qaeda. It is a good tactic, though...create an enemy so you can say you defeated it. Gotta take victory where we can get it!

Any victory against Al Quaeda is a good thing.

And I don't know of any liberal American who fantasizes about being enslaved by a worldwide Islamic theocracy. That's idiotic.

For the record, I don't know of any liberal American who fantasizes about being enslaved by a worldwide Christian theocracy either.

Do you fantasize about that?

No, I've never thought that, although now that you mention it, such a circumstance would be pretty humorous and rather ironic. But no, I've never thought that liberals wanted to be 'enslaved by a worldwide Islamic theocracy'. I've always thought that they fantasized about an America defeated, an American 'surrender', an America "put in it's place". After all, who are we to wish to impose freedom, democracy and promote civil rights around the world? And there were two reasons for their wishing failure on America. The first is that such failure would reflect on 'Republicans' or conservatives and that would increase the potential for political power. So in this respect, it's never been about America, it's been about liberals and the advancement of their agenda. And secondly, there's a perverse desire on the part of many liberals to 'relive' their heyday in the sixties when they were instrumental in America pulling out of Vietnam and the fall of a comparatively free and democratic Vietnam to the communists. Modern liberals see these people as heros and want to emulate them. Imagine the heady prospect of bringing about the failure of one of the most powerful nations on Earth. Forget about the loss of millions of lives, the loss of freedom, the advance of communism, that's nothing compared to the pride of their accomplishment.

I admit that I've never understood this psychology, but I've seen it all my life.

You have no understanding of the issue. al-queda is responsible for about 10% of the Iraqi violence. They were not a serious presence before the invasion. The problem is the civil war between the Shia and Sunni. Until you clowns figure this out and read a newspaper you have no credibility at all.

I have heard that Bin Laden's Al Quaeda was just a ram-shackle, tiny organization, that got extremely lucky. It's not Al Quaeda that the US is fighting in Iraq, but all of the factions who have loosely banded together in a Jihad, just like the Mujahideen in Afghanistan, fighting against the Soviets.

just last month they were saying Al Qaeda is stronger than they were on 9/11...either one of those reports is false...Al Qaeda isn't known for having a large presence in Iraq, before or durring the war...see there's the catch IRRIVERSIBLE BLOWS TO AL QAEDA (in iraq)...but that doesn't discribe Al Qaeda globally does it??? I swear the pentagon is taking public relations lessons from the pharmecudical companies...where the sidefeffects are meansioned much quicker and quieter than the benefits.

That can't be true! The US military dealing a devastating and potentially irreversible blow to Al Qaeda? Oh....I didn't notice how you added in there : The US military SAYS....I knew there was something wrong with that.

Isn't this like the millionth time we've heard this headline ? What makes it true THIS time ? LoL

The Iraq war is a huge waste of time, American lives, and dollars. When you kill / jail one terrorist, 3 more pop up in it's place. It's not hard to understand...at least it shouldn't be.
