Sure, the Iraqi government has big problems. But why have a defeatist attitude when progress is being made in Iraq?

Why do you think the U.S. was attacked on 9-11? Because they hate our freedom? Or aggressive U.S. foreign policy? They want the world to convert to Islam? An intricate web of events going back to the end of WWII involving Israel, Islam, and Oil?

--------------------Immigration-------------------
Although as to other foreigners it is thought better to discourage their settling together in large masses, wherein, as in our German settlements, they preserve for a long time their own languages, habits, and principles of government, and that they should distribute themselves sparsely among the natives for quicker amalgamation, yet English emigrants are without this inconvenience. They differ from us little but in their principles of government, and most of those (merchants excepted) who come here, are sufficiently disposed to adopt ours." --Thomas Jefferson to George Flower, 1817.

Our founding fathers thought it prudent to divide people and not suggest they settle into communities of one race or culture .

Whats so hard to understand about this . We have china towns mexican town puerto rico town and cuba town black town or in New york Harlem where for some reason all these people tend to gather .
Safety in numbers when attacked

I really dont know why anyone would want to legalize hardcore drugs.... so they can become mainstream in todays youth, ruin young lives, keep certain communities of people in the dumps, raise violence caused by delusional high people, raise the amount of car crashes by delusional high people ? What is to be gained ... money perhaps? Who supports this anyway? Libs or Cons?

We just moved back to the city about 8 months ago so this was our first time voting at our precint.
First of all it was in a tiny club house about 20' x 30'. The line was pushed all the way to the entrance door.
Hubby and I got into the long line. I stood there just a second when I realized it was for the democratic primary. I stepped out of line to get into the Republican one. There was no one in that line so I was glad that I could get out easily.
The lady searching for my name was about 80 yrs old and could not hear me clearly. I had to repeat my name to her about 4 times. Finally an elderly man came over to help her and he couldn't hear either and kept saying my last name is Bryant. I corrected him about 5 times until he finally got it. I then had to help them look through the books to find my name. We did, thanks goodness.
They then gave me a card that read Republican and sent me to the line to go to a voting booth.

(I will have to post more datails)

I understand that there is a big belief that people should be responsible for themselves and that its unfair for anyone to have to pay to help others out...but in a free capitalistic society where there will always be the have's and the have not's (which is all fair), how can anyone suggest that its not worth at least a small portion of everyone's fortune to help the least fortunate people?

Please don't just lump less fortunate into just being lazy people who would rather sit on the couch than work, as this is not an accurate description of all the less forutnate....no more than a greedy fat cat trying to exploit everyone possible describes anyone successful.

My friend is 32, married, mother of two. She says she's a Republican and always votes for Republicans.

However, she relies on many Democrat-backed social programs, and complains that there aren't better schools, more state-funded programs, city parks, etc.

What can I say to help her realize that voting Republican is against everything she wants?

I am pro life by the way... People support abortions because they claim that the ... embryo isnt a living human being. Well, if its not living.. then what is it? Dormant? Then what happens when there is a misscarraige? Surely it didnt DIE because for it to die it had to be living in the first place. So what happened? It just stopped working, is that it? I really dont understand this frame of mind at all. Pro Choice people please explain....

This is a very big debate in politics so share your views.

Will legislation be determined by who sends Fred the most money? Maybe I could get him to legalize pot if I send him $75,000..That's all it took for him to defend abortion rights, even though he claims he has always been opposed to abortion.

In an article in http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007350453,00.html Elton John is quoted as saying,
"Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision."

Gee, that sounds like a rephrase of ,'if they make their _own_ records, they won't be buying -mine-!'

Elton John raised money for AlGore in 2000. How can one simultaneously be socialist and capitalist ?

Rep. Nancy Boyda [D - Kan.] walked out of the Armed Service Committee hearings when retired Gen. Jack Keane said that "progress is being made."

She later commented that "there was only so much (of that) that you could take until we had to leave the room for a while ...."

**
Also last week, a spokesman for Speaker Pelosi said the Democratic leaders "are not willing to concede there are positive things to point to" in Iraq.

**
Commenting on the possibility that Gen. Petraeus' Sept. report might be positive [referring to the surge strategy], House Majority Whip James Clyburn [D. - SC] said that such good news would be "a real big problem for us."

****
Who is it that has the 'tunnel vision'?? Doesn't this seem to you that the Democrats can't handle the possibility that civilization is making progress in Iraq?

What do the Dems want -- political power in America (if temporary) at any cost to the rest of the world?

{I actually read most of the responses you folk write.}

We know that George W. Bush and his administration has made countless errors that have cost many lives. But has the President actually lied to the people? Or has he just thought he was telling the truth and been terribly misguided?

Its one thing to be delusional, and another thing to knowingly lie.

What do you think?
