libs agenda is to stress negativity. They rant and rave against the administration;when things go well they can only shift their focus to another perceived failure.they are eternal pessimists who will never be pleased until the world is left in the dark eating tofu.I actually feel sorry for them as a group. How can you not show pity to such a miserable group?

Because that was the point of the surge. To give the government in Iraq some peace to work on the political problems. If they fall apart, then the mission was a failure. Who gives a crap if the violence comes down a little if we're no closer to ending this thing?

I'm somewhat disappointed that so many people have forgot the number of people killed on 9/11. I'm disappointed that people do not allow the United States to defend itself after it was attacked. It will come out in history if we were right or wrong. Right now I think it may be to early to tell. Yes you all want your war to be nice and neat but war isn't that way. People die, some old, some young, some innocent, some guilty. War is not pretty, get over people. I'd rather have a war fought in Iraq then here.

The purpose of this surge was to provide a safe zone for the Iraqi government so that it could make political reconciliation between the various factions. The Iraqi government is falling apart even though it is more safe in Baghdad now, so the surge is not accomplishing its main purpose.
From the US State Department website:
"Crocker said the ultimate purpose of the surge is to buy time to build up Iraq's security forces and political process.
"[T]he process of reconciliation is key," he said. "I think there's frustration on some levels, absence of progress, rather clearly in the legislative arena. June 17, 2007

Because Bush himself has said that the government progress is the key to the surge working. Otherwise, you are just going to get more violence once the surge is over.

Thankkfully there seems to be some progress.
Consider if you will the lack of fundamnetal competence that led is here in the first place.
Why wasn't any of this done 4 years ago?

I'd like to think that no government is perfect and should definitely never be told it is. There is ALWAYS something some one could be doing better. And if they know it, they're more likely to fix it. If they fix it, they're better off in the long end.

why don't we wait till the September reports come out before we claim the surge is working.. after all.. you don't want to be called an "armchair general" do you?
But seriously.. what is the point of being there.. surge or no surge.. if the government is just going to fall apart?
we can't babysit them forever you know.
