The era of tax-free e-mail, Internet shopping and broadband connections could end this fall, if recent proposals in the U.S. Congress prove successful.

State and local governments resumed a push to lobby Congress for far-reaching changes on two different fronts: gaining the ability to impose sales taxes on Net shopping, and being able to levy new monthly taxes on DSL and other connections. One senator is even predicting taxes on e-mail.

At the moment, states and municipalities are frequently barred by federal law from collecting both access and sales taxes. But they're hoping that their new lobbying effort, coordinated by groups including the National Governors Association, will pay off by permitting them to collect billions of dollars in new revenue by next year.

When Bush ran in 2000 he campaigned as being a uniter. Since then our country has become even more divided. Instead of respecting the oposing point of view, it is now a "Your either with me or against me" society, regardless of where you stand on an issue. What happened?

in all honesty this is a bit of a rhetorical question; but i do want your opinions on his actions, either recently or during the whole of his presidency. what are the next steps? do you see us coming to some semblance of a resolution on certain pressing issues, or do you see him running this country into the ground more and more? every action has a reaction right? so let's hear yours.

It has to be done in a Nationally organized fashion by armed militia's! I have NOT seen or heard of such a campaign but there should be. The legal citizen Majority should have ultimate Rule & control or final say over Government & business hence they serve us properly or cease to exist! Which calls for ending Representative government! Now for those who think we must have government Fine but strickly as well managed "at will" employee's NOT anything like what exist NOW!

I do understand that there is and always will be discrimination, BUT not everything is.

If someone is not doing their job right and gets fired. Thats why. If someone acts like a mororn and gets banned from being somewhere, thats why. It is not always because of race, gender, age, etc. etc, but people seem to crying discrimination everytime something does not go their way.

The intend of carbon offsets is a good one, and very idealistic, but does it really work? Gore may be purchasing them in bulk to live a "Zero Carbon" lifestyle, but does that make it okay for him to fly in a private plane, live in a mansion that uses 20x more power than the average household? He may preach to the public to conserve energy and to buy carbon offsets which we can get from his company, but why not cut back further on his own use?

Interesting. 15 million brainwashed latino Catholic immigrants would sure seems like a lot of dough they might lose especially since they willeach have to pay a fine of $5000 to the US government.

Considering that it was Reagan who ended the FAIRNESS DOCTORINE in TV and RADIO reporting. Then finally Bush 43 deregulated the media and it was all bought up by a handful of massive corporations that by law have to avoid waste when doing business. When this happened all the networks and paper cut loose loads of investigative reporters and started basically repeating government and business statements rather than researching the facts for themselves.

This is antipollution wrapped in a new pacckage with a bigger bow.

Yes, reducing pollution (i.e. carbon footprint) is a good thing. Forcing governments to follow "new" golobal warming reduction guidelines is Kyoto in sheep's clothing.

We all want to reduce the pollution we put out. Let's all reduce our footprint. But let's cut the hype.

According to this radio show, the RCTV, Venezuelan station's lease has ran out and it is switching over to a new name.

The previous station involved supporting the previous harsh dictatorship that wouldn't allow coverage or investigations about the government. It only broadcast soap operas and cartoons.

It is said to have been involved in trying to overthrow Chavez and promoted his assasination. It promoted anti-democratic processes. People are marching now to support Chavez.

But there is no way for this abolished TV station to appeal the decision.

They say other propaganda stations in other countries have shut down for the same things.

Could the US shut down a station that promotes the overthrow of the US government?

I just saw him on GMA. He referred to our democracy at least ten times. We do not have a Democracy, we have a Representative Republic which is much more protective of individual rights and freedoms. I can't understand why almost half of the population voted for this buffoon in 2000. If the Democrats want any credibility they need to find more intelligent people with greater integrity. There current crop is no better even if they aren't as big liars.

If so, that's pathetic. 50% of America has already stated they would never vote for Hillary. Obama has all kind of weird stuff going on with his past and Edwards, if you can't see through his act, well, you need to get a clue.

Is there really no other choices?
