I am considering enlisting, and my wife doesn't trust the military. However, I hear from a friend in the Army that they HAVE to honor their contracts. We're both skeptical, and have heard they use the bait-and-switch to get people in, but then don't give them what they've been promised in the written MEPS contract. I'd like some idea of how prevalent this practice is.
Btw, we do know that every Army contract is an 8-year contract.

Some 40,000 personnel from all branches of the U.S. military have deserted since 2000, U.S. media quoted Pentagon sources as saying Tuesday.

From the total, more than half had served in the U.S. Army, according to the report.

Anti-war organizations said that the mass desertions were due to the strong resistance to war which is more prevalent than the military has openly admitted.

"They (U.S. military) lied in Vietnam about the amount of opposition to the war and they're lying now," said Eric Seitz, an attorney who represents Army Lt. Ehren Watada, the first commissioned officer to refuse to join his brigade when it was sent to Iraq last month. He is now under military custody in Fort Lewis, Washington.

Why didnt we just take care of the entire middle east when President Bush's father was in office, instead of sending more forces over? U know they never stopped hating us, we should have taken all Iraqi-Allies, and did what we're doing to Iraq now, so this whole thing wouldve been over by now! just wonderin if n e 1 agrees....

I have tricare. I truly feel like the doctors are pill pushers. In my experience they give you a quick fix for your problem with drugs and don't care about solutions.

The question begs answers!

Remember:

The US can't beat a tiny, Iraqi rebel uprise, do you think the US can beat a large-scale military force with 52,000 Mujahid Suicide Bombers signed up?

The Iranians are ready to smoke a few marines and they won't be playing any games like Saddam in 1991.

Do you think the weak, worn-out, old US Army can beat a mighty, young Iran?

Up until recently I have truly believed that if the U.S. withdrew from Iraq at this time that it would leave the country to ruin...for the insurgents to continue to fight over. That it might be irresponsible on our part to leave now. But in the last few days I have started leaning in a somewhat different direction.
If we pull our troops from Iraq....wouldn't it force the Iraqi people/government to be more responsible for the consequences of their country? Shouldn't we, as a democratic nation, step back and let the "cookies crumble as they may"? Will a nation that has been under oppresive rule for this long become codependent on us and therefore helpless or if given the chance to fight alone could rise up and create a democratic government?
