Ask him if he is an EX-Marine. He will let you know that there is no such thing. He is a FORMER Marine.
It's just a silly little thing, that comes from the saying: "once a Marine, always a Marine". It is really a good way to find out.
Another small but significant question would be to ask him the name of his Drill Sgt., He should tell you that he had a Drill INSTRUCTOR, the Army has Drill Sgt's.
Ask him about the GRINDER (marching field)
the MOTIVATION DITCH (a sewer like trench you crawled through)
The ROSE GARDEN (an obnoxious place you did push ups in when you fouled up)
Let us know if he passes the test!!!!

Ask when did he serve and where? If he even starts to hesitate on that he was not a marine.
Ask him where he went to basic training. If he can't tell you that he is NOT and never has been a marine. He should say either, Paris Island, SC or Recruit training depot in San Diego.
If he can't tell you this he is lying. No one ever forgets that.
Ask him how many weeks he was in basic training.
Should say a bit longer than 12 weeks but seemed like a year.
Not acting like a marine tells you very little. He may have been in IRAQ and that will take the ********* out of anyone. Other wise, you are right, you should be able to tell just by the way he acts.

I think asking what Semper Fi means would be the basic question to ask. Its one of the first things they learn and if he dont know then there is no way he has been through.
For the most part you can just tell a Marine by there personality.

Marines are NEVER "EX". A True Marine will say he is former..but our Motto is Once a Marine, Always a Marine.
However, here are some things he should know because they are instilled into the Marine Corp Mind:
1) Marine Corp Birthday: Nov 10th 1775
2) 5th General Order: To quit my post only when properly relieved. ( My fav. cuz it meant Off-Duty )
3) Have him sing you the entire Marine Corps Hymn ( First Verse )
If he doesn't know this stuff....He is a POSER!!!

Then ask him about his work as a marine... Ask what unit he was with? What was his rank? Does he have any military related tattoos? Any pictures from when he supposedly served?(He would have a military haircut) Go to: http://www.thefew.com/ at the bottom of the page you will see: The Best Marine Locator Search millions of records...free! First Name___ Last Name ____
That should help you out loads!

For someone who hasn't been in the Corps it might be difficult....for someone who has it's easy. There are just certain innocent questions you could ask that will let a real marine know, but nothing specific I can tell you to use unless you knew the answers.
You could ask him:
What is Tun Tavern?
Who was Chesty Puller?
What is the name of the sword marine officers are issued?
What is the nomenclature of an M16?
You could ask him to show you what a DD-214 looks like...that will tell it all.
Sgt B....Isn't Semper Fideles Latin for "simply forgetus"?

Ask him to see a copy of his DD214.
If he doesn't know what that is, he is a fake. If he can't provide one, he is a fake. No-one gets discharged from the service without one
Kick him in the balls if he is lying and tell him he better never meet up with this former Marine !
Could be he was given a dis-honerable discharge for being a non-hacker.

Any ex-marines that I've been around, usually let you know fairly soon. They are proud to have served in the marines. They are likely to have good posture and to be good at organizing things. I'd hire an ex-marine in a minute.

Go to all experts.com go to the military and theres a guy in there that can expose people who say they were in the marines. But be aware, not every marine acts like a marine.
