Mechanised infantry is infantry that goes into battle with the aid of armoured personel carriers. In combat, those serve as fire support vehicles. Oldfashioned infantry, hoofing it in, or being trucked in, is getting to be a thing of the past in modern armies that rely on speed and support weapons.
With armour we mean tank forces, often supported by self-propelled guns, basically armored artillery..

Mechanized infantry is the group of soldiers that can move with speed by the use of vehicles like the armored personnel carrier and tanks to achieve surprise and defeat the enemies. Armor are comprised of tanks manned by soldiers while infantry is composed of the foot soldiers that move by marching towards the enemy frontlines. The combination of armor and infantry is the mechanized infantry.

Mechanized infantry are infantry equipped with armored personnel carriers (APCs), or infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) for transport and combat
They are distinguished from motorized infantry in that their vehicles provide a degree of protection from hostile fire, as opposed to "soft-skinned" trucks or jeeps. Their support weapons are also provided with motorized transport, or are built directly into combat vehicles, in order to keep pace with the mechanized infantry in combat.
For units equipped with most types of APC or any type of IFV, fire support weapons such as machine guns, autocannons, or small-bore direct-fire howitzers are often mounted directly on the infantry's own transport vehicles.

Mechanized infantry ride in APC's or IFV's.There are able to ride up close to the battle front before dismounting their vehicle. They also have limited attack capabilities. They are also able to support tanks.Since they can keep up with them with their vehicles.
As for the other infantry. We refer to them as light infantry. They operate in terrain not suitable for mechanized vehicles.Such as mountains and jungles.
