The House yesterday sustained Bush's veto of a measure that would expand health-care for "poor children" to adults and nonpoor children.

Did you find that bill odd?

The Washington Post reports Rep. Fortney Hillman Stark Jr. said...

"You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

The votes on these measures were 402-2, 410-8 and 368-31 respectively, so Stark is well outside the mainstream even of his own party.

What do you think?

Are the rich too afraid of losing money? Are the Insurance companies too greedy and powerful to allow a National Health Care Plan? Many of us believe that Insurance companies and large corporations own our lawmakers from the city level on up to the Capitol building in Washington and the Whitehouse. I think THAT is the reason we do not have health insurance for everyone. Even our wounded Soilders, Sailors and Marines get lousy health care sometimes according to the TV news and news papers. (Ask a few veterans if you think that is not true).

For those of you who don't know, over the past few days, Rush Limbaugh has had a letter sent to his syndicator on Ebay for sale. The letter was sent to his syndicator, then given to Rush. The letter was about how he should be sanctioned and basically have his show cancelled because of a remark he made about a "phony soldier" that you have probably heard about. A large number of U.S. sennators signed the letter (about 40), but the one who wrote it was Harry Reid. The original copy of the letter was sold to Betty Casey for 2.1 million dollars today, and Rush Limbaugh matched that 2.1 million dollars, making 4.2 million dollars and donated it to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. So what do you think about this?

Is the idea of co-operating with the French and Germans demeaning to us? Are we stuck hopelessly in the past? What happens if (in terms of our economy) the **** hits the fan?

Honestly, what were they thinking when they wrote the constitution? If you have nothing to hide there's no need for warrants!

4th down, We'll have to work on the 5th amendment next. If you have nothing to hide, why should you care about being forced to testify against yourself?

What other ridiculous rights stand in the way of our freedom?

Personally, I find his behavior on just starting another war based on this to be a bit DISTURBING:

http://politicalwhispers.blogspot.com/2007/10/world-war-iii-is-going-to-be-hilarious.html

Is he going to keep laughing and joking when tens of thousands more die from his latest attempt to start another illegal war?

Yep.

But then, I am reminded when he looked under the table in 2002 and joked: "Nope! No WMDs under here!"

Our President has no shame.

He must think that EVERYTHING is one big joke to him:

People dying, people suffering, people living in misery...?

I just want to hear your comments and point of view. To what extent do you rely on your government when it comes to combating or reducing poverty? Or do you believe that world trade economics and globalization will create greater impact and progression in this issue?

Wars cost billions and kill people. Negotiated resolutions save lives and spend revenues frugally. Elitist "FOR PROFIT" health care costs billions to care for sick people, whereas health care for all is basically preventative medicine, and is designed to keep people healthy. It costs less to have healthy populace, and a healthy, strong population is an essential component of national defense.

I mean what is so wrong about legalizing weed...the government would make mega bucks with the taxes on it plus all the fast food businesses would become even more porductive. Also if you can be old enough to die for your country at 18...why cant you drink???? Thoughts anyone???

my suggestion is to stop providing free medical care for senators and representatives who can easily afford to pay for their own. That would be a start. What suggestions do you have for the health insurance problem?

When the democrats propose handing out more health insurance to more poor people what kind of coverage is it? I am asking because the "reports" say it will cost our budget $35 billion and its too cover 9 million "kids." That is $3,888 per person covered? Is that $35 billion one year, 3 years or how long?

The reason I ask is that I just bought catastrophic health insurance for my 7 employees at $59 per month - each. That is $708 a year for each of them and its got them covered if they get sick bad or have a serious injury.

So what is our government handing out - or planning too?
