Elections - October 2006

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Elections

In recent days and weeks, the mainstream media have repeatedly claimed that the Republican base is suffering from "low voter enthusiasm." But in fact there is ample evidence to the contrary. Two recent national surveys all show partisan interest is approximately equal. Gallup's latest analysis suggests Republicans and Democrats are now roughly even in terms of anticipated turnout in the midterm congressional elections. This poll shows that the GOP in fact now holds a slight lead in voter motivation, up from just a few months ago (70% R to 67% D). RT Strategies/Constituent Dynamics (conducted Oct. 8-10) released district-by-district polling showing Republicans have a slight edge in partisan intensity. GOP "voter motivation" is higher than Democratic motivation in 19 of 32 competitive House races, in some cases by as much as a full point on a 1 to 9 scale. Despite the media hype, an examination of all the facts makes it clear: the Republican base is active and engaged.

Do you think that people who don't care enough about our country to vote, should complain about our government? It's kinda like "I bought this product with my eyes closed. Now I opened the thing and realize that it's defective." Too bad we can't return this defective administration at the Walmart Return Desk. Maybe we can, on Nov. 7th.

Asked by a moderator how many US soldiers had died in Iraq this month, Republican incumbent Geoff Davis answered "17". The actual number is 71.
Just another "stay the course," idiot that doesn't have a clue what's happening in Iraq yet wants to hold public office. Watch it here.

Apparantly, his campaign staffers send out hundreds of letters to Hispanic voters telling them if they voted, they'd be put in jail. Police went thorugh his HQ w/search warrants, then on to his home. I didn't see whether he was arrested himself. Do anyone know? Intimidation of voters--way to go!

I really like our ballots in San Francisco, but I've also voted in San Diego (using the chad system). With all the controversy around counting votes and making them understandable, why hasn't there been one single voting system selected as "the best" and adopted by every county/state?

If I were to run for a public office such as Gov. or United States President, would you, the general public vote for me? If say I ran upon these beliefs: 1) the Judicial only states the legality of law based upon the US constitution, 2) no matter who all US citizens fall under the laws of the United States, 3) implimintation of a uniform tax code, 4) abollishing the 'Death Tax', 4) encouraging citizens to save their earnings themselves, 5) limited Gov. involvement outside of foriegn relations, 6) prohibiting illegal aliens from possessing drivers liscences, 7) discontinuing affirmitive action.

It has already been proven that more americans voted on American Idol than in the presidential elections...take in account all of the underage teenieboppers.....Why is voting for political candidates not as important as voting for Kelly Clarkson? Is a right that so many people fought for not really that important?

Why are green (or 3rd) party candidates often not invited to debates and their issues and policies not given equal coverage?

This happened in my state (TN) recently with the race for U.S. Senate when the green party candidate, Chris Lugo, was not included in the debates between Bob Corker and Harold Ford Jr. in Memphis and Chattanooga. He is a viable third party candidate and went through the same steps as the major party candidates, so why are his views going widely unheard? I am an independant voter and do a lot of extra research about the candidates to make sure that I know the policies and political histories of the person I vote for. However, many people don't do this as they believe they can gain all the information they need through televised debates & newspaper coverage. Thus my question, WHY, why are all parties not included in debates and their issues/policies not given equal coverage!? Doesn't this lead to voters who are not fully informed of their choices?

out me and you, or the so called american government? I'm so discusted with the other worlders defining me as something I'm not. I vote when I can, Which is almost on every little thing they throw at me, but only a computer could decifer half of the second liners, or additives they include on a bill, I believe it's time for a major change of those in office. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, or am I.

"It is Pat’s birthday on Nov. 6, and elections are the day after. It gets me thinking about a conversation I had with Pat before we joined the military. He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we get out.

Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes.

Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground.

Somehow faking character, virtue and strength is tolerated.
