It has already been proven that more americans voted on American Idol than in the presidential elections...take in account all of the underage teenieboppers.....Why is voting for political candidates not as important as voting for Kelly Clarkson? Is a right that so many people fought for not really that important?

The fact of the matter is that we as Americans have lost the sense of what the cost of freedom is. We no longer believe we must fight to preserve it and thus do not care in its maintenance. I myself do vote. I consider it a privilege which I must practice to allow government and my fellow Americans to hear my voice. If you nor I vote, then we turn our backs upon the sacrifices of the many to ensure us the opportunity to peacefully transfer government from one party to another.

Theres two reasons for this. The first is that the most mindless of people still has an appreciation for music, its one of our most base instincts. Even before people were walking erect, sitting in caves and flinging crap at eachother there was still evidence that they made music. The second is more insidious, it deals with the reason why Fox Networks would take a pop icon and elevate them to the status of an "idol". In the bible an idol was an icon elevated to such a status that it drew attention away from god. While people dont pray to these pop stars, in this context its meant to draw attention away from whats really important here at this time. Civic participation and responsible voting, long story short this "idol" is a distraction from the democratic process. Maybe some extremist group should bomb fox networks and disable their transmission towers.

Are you stupid? You can only vote once in elections. You can vote as many times as you want for american idol.
There are people who vote hundreds of times per week on american idol. Most people dont' even watch it or vote. It is a steady audience that does all the voting.
