November is almost here. Please tell me that you are going to vote. People gave up a lot for us to have the right to vote. Some lost there lives. What are you going to do to make sure this time they don't still your vote.

The general attitude is to be admired...many people are intent upon letting their frustration with national politics be heard.

But the rationales for not voting are pitiful. For example:

1) "The U. S. Supreme Court cancelled my vote in 2000." I wager that only one in ten thousand, perhaps fewer, who have that attitude has read or can discuss that opinion. All but the few have simply read a headline and use it as a hook upon which to hang refusal to vote rather than being a responsible citizen.

2) "The other side is as corrupted as the side in power." While it is true that power corrupts, we allow it to happen by deluding ourselves that after we elect those we think will be responsible, we don't have to pay attention and communicate our concerns to them. Corruption happens because vested interests seek it and because citizens allow it, by not paying attention, by not encouraging elected officials to act in the best interests of the many, and by not expressing our preferences directly to them.

People who don't vote evade the most basic responsibility of citizenship in these United States. Voting is an obligation to be carried out. It is as basic as being responsible for oneself and one's family.

Disgust is not a valid excuse for turning one's back on the responsibility of electing leaders. Neither is it an effective coverup for the fact that many find it easier to remain ignorant of national affairs than to take a little time each day to read, listen to or watch the news. It takes a little thought and fact processing to make an educated vote, intellectual heights which an unfortunate many choose not to scale.

Just for you Mark D. and Letmikefi. You really should learn the facts before you make a false statement! The Florida Constitution states that if you are going to ask for a re count of the vote you MUST ask for a STATE WIDE re count and not one city or county! This is not what Mr. Gore did nor his group of advisers. They went to the Superior judge and he correctly ruled and then it went to the state Supreme Court where they changed the State Constitution which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that what they had done was illegal!
Yes I will continue to vote like I have done for many years!
However living in the State of Washington I am no longer sure my vote is really being counted!

I disagree with voting for the sake of voting. Yes, people have fought and died for this freedom and this right should be respected enough that people have a true knowledge of the candidates.

In my area during the elections Democratic pollsters would pick people up in bars, give them $10 and take them to the polls and tell them who to vote for and then deliver them back to the bars. Is this really a worthy vote?

The more people who vote the less likely we will have another "close" race that will come down to a few votes and end up at the supreme court.

Human nature. We perceive a problem but don't take the time or make the effort to try to change it. Then we B I T C H about it later on.

There is NOTHING that I can do to prevent the U.S. Supreme Court from pulling another "fast one" like Bush v. Gore! If the USSC can tell us that they won't allow our votes to be counted then there is no point in voting!
