Single "centralized" Govermant should be broken into regional govermant centers. Allowing more direct interaction within neighboring states controlling more of the overall tax base.
This would allow enormously improved connection to the people it serves.

Tradtional Federal Govermant should simply oversee national defense, infrastructure and transportation and interstate mediation only. All current social service functions should be directed to state and local govermant and churches

There are many activist efforts undertaken in the United States, and yet few are able to gain large momentum and inspire and drive change at a grassroots level up. What can be done to inspire people, in their everyday experiences, to mobilize for action (marches, sending money, lobbying Congress, hosting large scale concerts/fundraisers, appearing in major media) in a way that empowers the people involved and creates lasting changes?

A couple goes on vacation to a fishing resort in north Minnesota. The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn. The wife likes to read.
One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and takes a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and continues to read her book.
Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?"
"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking isn't that obvious?)
"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."
"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.
"But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment."
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

A fighter pilot walks into a bar and takes a seat next to a very attractive woman. He gives her a quick glance then casually looks at his watch for a moment.
The woman notices this and asks, "Is your date running late?"
"No," he replies, "I just got this state-of-the-art watch, and I was just testing it.
"The intrigued woman says, "A state-of-the-art watch? What's so special about it?"
The fighter pilot explains, "It uses alpha waves to talk to me telepathically.
The lady says, "What's it telling you now?"
"Well, it says you're not wearing any panties....
"The woman giggles and replies, "Well it must be broken because I AM wearing panties!

"The fighter pilot smirks, taps his watch and says, "Damn thing's an hour fast."

(This is dedicated to "walkerman5000" who thinks my jokes are getting worse.)

A guy was sitting quietly reading his paper when his wife walked up behind him and whacked him on the head with a frying pan.

"What was that for?" he asked.

"That was for the piece of paper in your pants pocket with the name Mary Lou written on it," she replied.

"Two weeks ago when I went to the races, Mary Lou was the name of one of the horses I bet on," he explained.

"Oh honey, I'm sorry," she said. "I should have known there was a good explanation."

Three days later he was watching a ball game on TV when she walked up and hit him in the head again, this time with the iron skillet, which knocked him out cold.

When he came to, he asked, "What the hell was that for?"

She replied, "Your horse just called.”

I'm an atheist, and have rights under the constitution. Will you vote for candidates who will stand up for these rights as well as your own right to practice your religion as you see fit?

2006-07-12 06:51:44 · 13 answers · asked by poecile 3

The 1st Amendment says about religion that, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof:..."

Usually, only the first 10 words are quoted to support arguments that this establishes a Constitutional "separation of church and state." I think there should be a "separation of church and state," but aren't the next 6 words just as important in establishing an individual's (or groups) right to practice their faith anytime, anywhere, not just in the church, temple, mosque, etc.?

Too many people interpret the 1st Amendment to mean that religion has no place outside of the church, temple, mosque, etc., and I disagree with them. Do you agree with me?

I keep reading these angry posts about immigration, politicians (on both sides) and other issues regarding the politics/gov't in the USA. What would be some REAL solutions to the issues that impact you personally? Wouldn't the energy put into the anger be better spent on finding answers and taking REAL action instead of just hate spouting or personal attacks?

I'd love to hear some honest thoughts/ideas for a change! :)

A tourist walked into a curio shop in San Francisco. Looking around at the exotica, he noticed a very lifelike, life-sized bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but it was so striking he decided he must have it. He took it to the counter.

"How much for the bronze rat?"

"Twelve dollars for the rat, one hundred dollars for the story," the owner said.

The tourist gave the shop owner twelve dollars. "I'll take the rat. You can keep the story."

As he walked down the street carrying the rat, he soon noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the alleys and sewers and began following him. This was disconcerting, so he began walking faster. But within a couple of blocks, the herd of rats behind him had grown to hundreds, and they began squealing.

He began to trot toward the Bay, but looking back he saw that the rats, now numbered in the millions, were squealing ever louder, and coming toward him faster and faster. Now scared, he broke into a run, then a full Olympic sprint to the edge of the Bay where he threw the bronze rat as far out as he could. Amazingly, the millions of rats all jumped into the Bay after the bronze rat, and they all drowned.

The man walked back to the curio shop. "Aha!" said the owner. "You have come back for the story."
"No," said the man, "I came back to see if you have a bronze Democrat.
