Should the US threaten to stop funding or pull out?

To "Doctor Watson"": You must be shooting the "7% solution", if you know what I mean. The UN is currently in a major, fatal scandal. The world needs a UN that is honest, fair and takes action when necessary.

The UN is useless because,as a peace-keeping body,it didnt give
Bush the go ahead he persoanlly wanted? Based on what we know now,Bush should have seen some wisdom in the UN's decision.

Can we all agree some nationalistic Americans live in a right-wing dreamworld that has become a useless embarrassment?

I would have to say yes i beleive that the UN has lost a lot power, and is quickly becoming more and more pointless. The U.S. currently funds 22% of the UN budget we should threaten to pull out

The UN is only an embarrassment because when countries ignore what is decided upon, Israel many times, as well as others, nothing is done about it. Not to mention, when one of the superpowers doesn't like what they hear, they do want they wanted to do without UN backing, the U.S. invading Iraq. For the UN to work, all member countries have to agree and work together and throughout history, I don't believe that has ever happened. As for the U.S. stopping funding of the UN, does it really matter as they do what they want, when they want, to whomever they want as do most bullies. Seems like the U.S. funds who they want as long as they do what the U.S. wants, and when they don't like the results, they invade and blame everyone but themselves, Iran throughout the 50' and 60's for example. As for fixing the UN, how do you really fix something that never worked?

The UN is only as useless as the security council makes it. A few whiny, spoiled, selfish nations butting heads over every single issue that comes their way, seems to sabotage the system every time.

Maybe the US should just take over the UN, then we can make sure that it does what it is supposed to?

The U.N. in its original concept is a Utopia of social political movements. Unfortunately with every large organization and bureaucracy "greed" consumes good.

The United Nations is a failed service. Providing no long term solutions for complex ideas. Fraught with corruption and criminality it has become defunct.

It can only be fixed by its disillusionment, however the void would have to be filled by another facet of the same flawed diamond.

The UN can't do much. No international organization can be The Law and fix everything.
You can't have something all nations agree to an organization with the power to overthrow governments or force donations

But we need it, for all that it can do, to give aid where it can, make nations speak civilly to each other, and to put peacekeepers where nations can't really intervene, but can show their backboneless care

The US shouldn't 'threaten' to pull out - they should just pull out. US taxpayers foot 22% of the UN's total budget - do you know how well those ambassadors live, travel, wine & dine? They're absolutely useless and they have no respect for America.

Why don't you actually do a little research and Google some legit sources and you'll learn about all of the good, positive things the UN has accomplished over the years.

I'm old enough to remember the "GET U.S. OUT OF U.N." campaign of 40 years or so ago. The U.N. has only gotten worse since then and it's totally funded by the U.S. so we can let the whole world dictate to us what we can and should be doing. if the U.S. would just stop funding the U.N. that would quiet them.

we should stop funding and just do what needs to be done. with responsible citizens and good diplomatic relations the world would be better off without the UN and more would get accomplished.
