In the case of red light cameras, many cities are issuing tickets to the owners of vehicles that are photographed running red lights. The fine is a civil fine, but the driver can sign and affidavit identifying the driver if it was someone other than themselves.

The 5th amendment protects a person from incriminating themselves in a criminal case. From my understanding, such cases are typically considered criminal offenses, however, my city is taking them as civil fines.

What happens if the person refuses to verify whether or not they were driving the vehicle? Are you protected from self incrimination is a civil trial?
And how can you be fined for something that no one can prove that YOU did? (Photographs are ONLY taken from behind the vehicle)

When they pull me over, do I have to answer their random questions?
They ask me everything....
Where did you come from, Why did you go there, And what did you see there?
Where are you going?
Why are you going there?
Where do you live?
How long you lived there?
Do you go to school? Which School you go to?

I had a single cop ask me all those questions, then he gave me a ticket.
Do I have to answer any questions like those I listed above?

I'm writing about the theroetical basis for the constituion for a government essay, I was told I would fine the answer in Federalist papers 47 48 and 49. Am I correct in thinkng that the basis is (to quote the constitution fo Georgia) "that the legislative, executive, and judiciary departments shall be separate and distinct, so that neither exercise the powers properly belonging to the other"

Is that right?

After visiting my local neighborhood Wal-Mart where I bought holiday twinkle lights on sale for 2 for $5 upon bringing them home and reading the packaging I was horrified at the caution statement on the back. There was a lead warning that the wires are coated with a lead substance known in California to cause birth defects. So I went back to the store to return the lights and when the clerk asked why I said because the lights contain lead which cause birth defects the other clerk spoke up and said that it only pertains to CA and I live in Florida. So I guess since I am 3000 miles away from California I am immune? My question is:If something is known in one part of the country to cause cancer, birth defects, and such and I am not living there does that mean it wont affect me?I'm an educated woman with a masters degree but I cant see how/why I wouId not be affected.I understand that different states have different laws.I dont understand how this product can still be on the market regardless.

I recently joined the Navy, swore in and everything. A few days before I was talking to my recruiter and told him about parking tickets that were unpaid and he said that they would be fine if I just paid them before I shipped. So I tried to find every parking ticket I have, in Texas mind you (I now live in Colorado), and have found out that I had a speeding ticket that I did not know about and have a warrant out. I have talked to the municipal court and they said that it was not a big deal I just needed to pay it and the ticket just goes on my record. So I am now pay the ticket off. I am wondering now if the FBI background check will catch this and if anything will happen to get me such as getting kicked out of the Navy. I have heard it time and time again about the penalty for open tickets and know what can happen to you. Please can anyone help.
