Yep, it happens all the time for various reasons... Sometimes the person doesn't feel that it was enough of an emergency to call the police to their house... Sometimes they have papers to be served... Sometimes they just want to check if their lost property has been turned in... Sometimes they just need directions because they are lost. It's no problem, really!!!... Only thing is that sometimes after-hours, there is no secretary there and all the officers are all out patrolling in their districts or on calls, but we can send one back to the station. If there's no one there when you get there, all you have to do is pick up the station phone outside the door or call 911 and let them know you are there.

Yeah, it's normal for people to walk into a police station if they're are getting arrested, paying a fine, or something along those lines. But, other than that, why would you want to go into a police department? My dad's a police officer, but I'd rather not go see him at work. It's just weird and creepy I guess.

Yes, it's a public building, they're there to serve and protect, open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, including holidays. They'll most likely have the doors going into the interior of the police department locked, but they should have either a phone or a dispatcher/receptionist sitting there to talk to.

Of course! My child's teacher took all the classes in the 6th on an unexpected field trip to the police department... So she was leading in around 100 kids, and the police officers weren't doing nothing.

Of course it's okay if you want to report something!

It would be unusual if you didn't have a reason to be there. On the other hand, you don't have to schedule an appointment if you need to speak to the police. I once walked in to ask if the department was hiring. Because I was asking for a friend, they said to have him stop by. No one appeared to consider this unusual.

if you have something to report like seeing a crime or a crime has been done to you you can go to the police station or if you need infromation on protection for yourself or a loved you can go in there but to hang out it is against the law because the calls that come in are protected under law and they cant have you hearing people calls for help.

Yes, by all means. Police stations, at least in Illinois, are considered 'safe havens'.

Yes and people even go in riding in a wheelchair, the police station is owned by the taxpayers and they have more right in there than do their employees(COPS)
